To all the corvette guys, let me know how hard it is to remove that crank pulley....

Every car has it's challenges to work on. Figuring out the secret way to do a specific task is part of the fun of ownership.

Agreed. I've been so busy the last couple months I haven't been able to do anything on her. Felt good to at least get the plugs

I put an underdrive on my c5 in less than a day, was it harder than my previous ws6? Yeah, but it's not a big deal like the old farts who post threads on how to open the glove box on the Corvette Forum make it, you just move the steering rack.

I didn't say it was impossible, just that it's more complicated than an F-body, that's all. So you did it in less than a day, I can do it in 10-15 minutes now that I've done it a couple times, that's all.

How bad is it to do a clutch in a c5/c6? I've heard you have to drop the entire rear cradle as well as the torque tube.

Yes sir, that's basic stuff you should know going into a c5, you can't be a cheap-*** like everyone else on here trying to get away with the bare minimum like you always see in new threads (I wanna do headers so I can be loud, but the motor mounts cost $60 extra and take more time to put in so I'm not gonna do them and hope for the best. Or. My car needs a new clutch really bad because I keep powershifting my stock clutch, but a slave cylinder costs extra money, do I REALLY need a new one?? Etc.). Come back to me when your dash shatters, your console lid rips off, your rear quarters crinkle after launching, your ashtray lid breaks, and your sail panels paint deteriorates because of acidic glue. All we did was talk about the difficulty doing plugs were in our old F-Bodies compared to our new cars because the OP mentioned the plug that everyone hates doing, and you come in here flexing your nuts trying to prove that f-bodies are "easier" to work on, or atleast to me that's how I took it. I used to have a really nice ws6 and loved it, I just found my Vette at a really good deal that I couldn't give up. I'll agree to disagree here, because they both have up and downsides, but I took your first comment as being a smartass, so that's why I retaliated like I did. Just for fun though, here's my clutch install, which was actually quite simple (the rear cradle is 4 bolts plus other tiny things like electrical connectors)

Wow, I guess I hit a nerve. Yes, the #8 plug sucks big time on the f-bodies, no doubt. Someone made the comment that the plugs are so easy in a vette, which I certainly agree with, I just made the observation that there are other things that are difficult for the DIY'er on a vette compared to a f-body, that's all.

I know a c5/c6 is a far better engineered car than our f-bodies. No doubt. GM knew it was going to put the f-body on hiatus back in the early to mid nineties, so no money went into making them a better car.

I simply made the comment from one DIY'er to another about the differences in each car, that's all. No need to get all deffensive about it. It looks like you have a lift, which makes working on cars so much easier than laying on your back trying to do stuff.

I took this thread as a 'we all hate changing the #8 plug' thread to which you jokingly said that it's so much easier in your vette, which I agree is true, to which I jokingly asked how hard is it to remove your crank pulley, that's all, it's a joke. I even followed it up in the same post saying that every car has it's quarks to work on, you just need to figure out the tricks to do certain tasks.

When I do plugs, I do #8 first so I can get the hard stuff out of the way. I just take the coil off and can get it if im laying on half of the engine bay lol.

It takes me about 25 minutes to do mine. 1-7 from the top and 8 from the bottom. I have no emissions to deal with and my coils have been relocated so it is a lot easier than working on one with all the stock stuff in the way.

That would help TONS. Even though the coils are on top you never realize how much they're in the way until you have them off for something.
