Default Stock cats in BBK y-pipe

Alright so this is gonna sound like a pretty stupid question. Has anyone taken the stock cats and hollowed them out to make a fake cat to pass emissions. I'm gonna get some BBK LT's here in the next month or so, which is a 2 1/2 inch y-pipe. Instead of just buying fake cats or high flow cats I would l just want to fool them with the stockers. If y'all think its a bad idea, I will probably just buy fake cats and get the rear O2's tuned out. It's just an cheaper idea I thought of.

I've run with hollow cats and the SLP Y, but that
piece is made to bolt up with factory cats. Don't know
whether that is the case with the BBK, or not.

The hollow cats were a bit "boomy" around 2000-2500
RPM, as I recall.

Well it's the cheap route of just getting the hallowed stockers welded in the BBK ORY, or buying the fake cats that are essentially a straightpipe in a cat housing. I was just wondering if anyone had ever done the stock cats in an aftermarket ORY.

Thanks though.

Save up and buy a pair of Magnaflow spun bullet cats since you'll need the small size to fit a cat into the driver side pipe.

if its purely for the visual inspection then yeah, if it matches the bbk diameter thats what id probably do. you can also add flanges to the cats and add/remove them when you want to.

Yea I've been looking at those for if I decide to keep it "legal" but I haven't decided yet. Either way it's being tuned once I get the headers because I'm gonna do an LS6 intake manifold at the same time, which obviously removes the EGR.

Thats the only problem is I've read on a couple different threads on here that the stock y-pipe is 2.25 inches all the way up to 2.75 inches, which confused me. But the flange idea is pretty good. May just do that.

the cats are constant diameter and does not change. what changes is only the Y pipe diameters. on the driver side it becomes more of an oval shape before it mergers with the other side.

I was going to do flanges just for inspection but my car passed without cats here in middle east. i think its an easy, cheap long term way. so why not!
