Default Need Advice On Header Install

Ok so im in the process of putting TSP 1 7/8" long tube headers on my 408 and i need some advice on the best way to put the drivers side header on. I tried removing the oil filter and oil bypass plate and that helped but im gonna have to lift the motor off the mount for that extrac inch of needed clearance. So my question is how do i lift the motor off the drivers side mount. I tried a search but had some questions.

So my understanding of how to do this is to pull the altinator. Then u put a 2x4 on a floor jack and then support the engine from the bottom of the oil pan ( the flat part ). Then when its supporting the weight u loosen and pull the long bolt that hold the mount to the k member.

Now my question is do i need to loosen the passenger side mount bolt as well and is the oil pan strong enough to do this. Also what do i need to watch out for, what could get damaged ect., and do i need to undo the trans? Basically im just wanting to know if i have the right idea or not. Now i put this engine in so i know how to work on it im just running it by u guys first.

I installed the tsp 1-7/8 headers and all I had to do is jack it up as high as i could and take oil filter off and oil plug out. Slid right in.

I just installed my TSP 1 7/8 headers and the passenger side went in no problem. For the driver side I had to borrow taller jack stands from my friend. My jack stands only were 18" tall. I think we got another 2-3" out of his and they slid right in. I had my oil filter and plug out, steering linkage, and every thing else that was in the way out of there.

I don't remember how high I had it but I did jack up the whole car not just the front. I have the standard jack stands. I'm running factory castings heads. I'm not sure but I don't think your heads would be that different externally. But I never had a set in my hands. If you haven't taken out the drain plug try that first. I had to drain brand new oil out. If all else fails, to answer your question about the motor mount use your engine hoist and get a chain and run it diagonally across the motor use some bolts with washers through the chain links and attach to the motor. Then use the hoist to support it and take out the motor mount bolts and just let the motor float. You should be able to move it enough side ways to slide the header in.

Thanks for all the input. Just out of curiosity how do u remove the steering linkage. Do u just undo the one bolt that connects the hoint in the center?

Jack it up high enough to fit the header vertically under your car. On both sets of Kooks I've installed I had to twist or rotate the header as I pushed it up.

There are two bolts for the steering linkage. Lower one at the steering rack, and upper one where the steering column comes out the firewall. Upper bolt hole is slotted so you can slide the shaft up and off of the rack

Thanks for everyones opinions on this. I did get the drivers side in tonight before work so im happy. I got a few more questions though. Im gonna be putting in new O2 sensors and i want to know how tight they need to be and do they need to be calibrated. Like do i need to install them and wait 24 hours before firing it up. Thanks again for ur guys help.

Also what spark plugs should i run. My 408 has a compression ratio of 11.2:1So and its all motor right now. I run chevron 91 cause thats all there is in california.
