Default Going to install my LSX intake, just one question?

I see that the intake doesn't include, and or come with the foam padding for the under-side of the intake, that I think goes over the Knock Sensors. The Stocker had it, my LS6 intake had it, and this one doesn't, Is it just not needed, or should I go and buy a set?

Good question. I helped install an LS6 intake this weekend and it had the foam on it. I'd be safe and get some foam to put down. Good luck

I would do it, some have complained about the extra noise/whine that the FAST LSX makes after they've installed it and it might be the lack of foam that's doing/contributing to it.

I think they sit a little lower though I wonder if foam would interfer?
You have to change the valley cover bolts to button tops to clear & it does sit notably lower??

Im just worried that I might get some false knock without those foam pads over the knock sensors.

He's referring to valvetrain noise - I plan on installing mine without the foam as well.

Why would you hear more valvetrain noise with this intake? Also, do you think We have a better chance of getting "FALSE" knock without those foam pads on top of the knock sensors?

The intake is a "hollow shell" It's more than likely echo'ing any noises from the valvetrain.

Foam has little to do with the knock sensors, except keep the wires cleaner.

Exactly the foam just keeps crap from getting under there.
Have you ever seen how much of a noise/knock it takes to signal a knock sensor?
I have tested them on LS1's & other motors, & the amount of force required to trigger a notable event in the PCM eyes is significant.
Alot more than a chincy piece of foam can dampen.

wow, i just found this and I see it's pretty old but I am having alot of noise from my intake. I didn't hear it with my stock intake but when i put my ls6 on without the foam it makes a buttload of noise. Could this be the reason?

Goddamn almost 3 years old, where the hell did you find this at mvvette97?

This is funny that some peple think lack of foam on the bottom of the intake is the cause for noise. Its not the foam its the fact that the FAST is a very hollow design and you can hear the valvetrain right through the intake.

As stated the foam was designed to keep crap out. I remember this debate from 2002. Without it people were having issues with water sitting on top of the knock sensors.
