Default *HELP* Y Pipe options for Kooks 1 7/8" headers

I'm going to remove my dual electric cut outs on my exhaust. I was young and dumb and took my car to a local "muffler shop" years ago just wanting to have the loudest damn thing around...

Result = cut outs WELDED to my new stainless Kooks headers and a Frankenstein job on my Kooks y-pipe.

Now that I lowered my car the passenger cut out scrapes, bangs and catches on everything. I need a new y-pipe.

What options do I have that will line up with the kooks collectors that won't run me $300.00 + for just a y pipe? (MUST be stainless)

I'd just look for a used kooks one.

I got kooks headers ready to install and im in the same boat. Im not sure which Y pipe would work best. The Kooks Y pipe looks rather crappy with the merge, and its expensive to boot.

IMO, get the Kooks Y-pipe and remove the center section.
Buy one 304ss 90*, and 45* bend and a Magnaflow or better yet a Vibrant y-merger.
The cost minus the Y-pipe is about $114 with a magnaflow#10879(y-merger), vibrant 13042(90* bend), and a vibrant 13102(45* bend).

With a Vibrant 10360 (y-merger) about $186.

99BluZ28 - that would probably be a great flowing piece, however I'm on a budget here and not wanting to dump another several hundred in my exhaust. I screwed up when I did it the first time and it cost me.
Kooks 1 7/8 race headers $1k (approx)
Kooks Y-pipe $300 (approx)
QTP cut outs $350 (approx)
GMMG $850 (with tips)
SLP Resonator $120

That's about $2620.00 before shipping ($200 - $250) and instal (welding that F-ed me)
I really can't justify another big expense for exhaust right now. I wish I could.

Thanks for the post though

For that price, you could have gotten the Kooks headers + true duals. Actually, you would have saved $500.

That's why I did it that way to begin with. A good cb + headers + y = too damn much for what it is.

But to fix your issue now, I would see if the TSP stainless Y-Pipe would work. It's like $130. The other $150 could be used to make it line up if there are any issues. It also comes with a decent merge.

Agree. Speed Engineering also has an identical, stainless y-pipe around the same price.

Well, with the very tight budget I'd have to agree with going with either the TSP or Speed Engineering Y-pipe then, but you probably need to modify either one to some small degree for a good fit.

I'm looking into both of those. The guy who's going to help does great fab work with exhaust, but I'm not sure he has any stainless supplies. It shouldn't be that big of a deal for "minor" tweaking. Thanks for the input guys!

Why don't you just cut the collector off the headers and weld new ones on? It's a lot cheaper than 1k for a new set.

I'm going to inquire about a shop making me a custom SS Y-pipe. I'm just not a fan of that merge and I'm sure I can get something better for the money.
