Default QTP Y pipe better than Kook's Y pipe?

I have read a couple threads saying this, but not of them really explained why? Can someone elaborate on this.

The QTP Y pipes have a true merge collector (Flowmaster merge) in them, the Kooks (and Hooker, Jet Hots, Pacesetters etc.) have the 'one pipe attached to the other pipe' merge which just isn't as efficient, but is a little cheaper to make of course.
IMO it is worth it to go for the QTP.

Just to let you know the fitment on my QTP Y sucks. If you are going with Kooks headers i would go with their Y as well.

Interesting. Have you had first hand experience with QTP's Y pipe, or have just read about fitment issues?

i just installed a set of QTPs Headers and Y pipe with my dad on my car.. i had no issues what so ever. I dont mean to upset anyone in here but to me it seems that most that say that QTP has a bad Y dont have one and are just talking based on what they have read.

Anyway the reason that i went with a QTP Y is because of thier real collector which is a proven gain instead of just 2 pipes thrown together. and i got the dual cutouts too and it sounds bad ***

True, the Flowmaster Merge collector on the QTP Y-pipe kicks ***.
If I weren't running true duals, this would be the Y-pipe I would run on my car.

I don't know about QTP but my Kook's Y-pipe didn't fit worth a damn.

My Kooks fit decent but not as good as the headers did, problem is each car is a little different so Kooks (all headers) have to give a little wiggle room.

But if I need to get the catted Y for emissions I will certainly look at QTP because of the colllector. But are we really talking about a REAL difference in power to the wheels???

I have the QTP Catted Y and am using it with my Jet Hot longtubes. The reason these Catted Y's have a rep for not fitting good is because they are 3" pipe with cats and there is not a whole hell of alot of room under there. I installed my QTP Y with my SS jacked 24" in the air on top of 10" Cinder Blocks and then drove it to my muffler shop to have it welded up as the clamps supplied are not strong enough to prevent exhaust leaks. Upon driving to the muffler shop my Y rubbed the Trans cross brace on takeoff and rubbed the floorboards upoon braking. My muffler guy had to tear the whole thing out and make a new drivers side header collector pipe as the QTP one was bent in the wrong direction for the drivers side cat to miss the tranny cross brace. After he installed the new pipe everything bolted up fine with good clearance and no rubbing or knocking. The Flowmaster Y collector is a VG looking piece and looks to flow sooooo much better over the split Y setups where the two pipes are just welded together.

Does the qtp catted y fit with slp sfc's? It doesn't look like it will because of where the driver side cat is located in the pipe.

JPWS6, That's another reason why my muffler guy had to make another drivers side header collector pipe as the cat was also resting on the SLP subframe connector and would vibrate had rub under acceleration.

The QTP Y-pipe fits horribly. I've seen it on two other cars besides my own and none of them fit right. Your best bet is to actually buy a Flowmaster merge collector and have a custom Y made.

Of the people who have had fitment issues with the QTP Y pipes, did you by yours recently, or have you had it for a while? I ask this because supposedly QTP did have fitment issues a while back, but has now fixed the problems.

Thanks for the response. Do you think the fitment was not great because you are not using QTP LT's, or does that not have anything to do with it?

God-all of this talk is kind of disheartening. You would think that a large volume company such as Kooks or QTP would make something fit right, wouldn't you? There's a local F-bod guy around here that makes custom y-pipes for headers and non-emessions use, and it looks like I may have to go to him. He does them one set at a time, car by car basis, so it would almost have to fit.

QTP headers fit just fine. It's their Y-pipe that doesn't fit worth a damn.
