Default Ls6 mods

I'm looking to do an ls6 intake swap on my 99 SS. While its off I want to do the ls6 valley cover also. Now I've done lots of research and want to do the 04 up with the pvc built into the valley cover but there's not a write up on it. There are write ups on the earlier valley covers but I don't know much about pvc systems and im confused on which hoses I would need or how to modify the write instructions for the updated valley cover. Also, when I do the ls6 valley cover I would not need the coolant crossover kit as I would if I was doing just the ls1 to ls6 intake swap, is this correct? If I could use the actual ls6 coolant lines I wouldn't need the plugs either? Also planning on deleting egr, so Im planning on getting the block off plates. May also do a catch can set up when this is all apart. Anyone with both valley cover and catch can se any benefits? Any help steering me in the right direction with the ls6 intake and valley cover swapand any other parts I need would be appreciated, thanks!

LS1howto.com should have a write up with pictures for you. You will have to notch the block a little with a dremel to get the cover to fit, at least I know I had to, but its easy just make sure you cover everything up well as to not get metal flakes everywhere, then just use a shop vac to get the rest out. The cover comes new from GM with the bolts and gasket. I would go ahead and also purchase new knock sensors and wire harness since you are going to be in there anyways and have to take them out to do the valley cover.

So would I still need ls6 conversion kit for the coolant lines? and I can just delete the pcv valve all together with the 2004+ valley cover? I seen the ls1howto but would the install be different with the 04+ valley cover since the pvc is built in?

Instructions are identical for the conversion whether 01-03 or 04-06. The only thing that changes is the elimination of the external PCV system (all the hoses and valve) -- and all that's involved with removing that is literally just removing it!

Here's the part numbers:

valve cover plug (12568011)
valley cover to intake hose (12594779)
'04 LS6 PCV valley/PCV (12577927)

98-00 will need:
two coolant plugs (12602540 x2)
crossover tube (12602548)
You can also do the dual-cross over setup if you'd prefer: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ver-pipes.html

So these are all the parts I need to do the ls6 manifold and ls6 valley cover? Also, has anyone ordered off of gmparts direct or gm performance motor? I don't like how they don't have pictures and prices seem too low to be true

Or you can do any number of the steam kits on the market... like the Kurt Urban setup. It's trick and works better than stock.

GMpartsdirect has great part pricing, but you'll notice that they gouge you on shipping. With this in mind, however, they still end up less than any of the other online GM parts places.

FWIW, I bought my conversion stuff from them. If I can get anything in ACDelco then I get it on Amazon.

summitracing price matched my ls6 valley cover from gmpartsdirect. However they also added the shipping price that gmparts charges, which isnt bad.

Summit ships a whole lot faster than gmpartsdirect, plus they have great customer service too.

You'll probably want to pick up a new set of intake manifold gaskets. The FelPro set is like $15 from local parts stores.

Im new to this fourm and the ls word so please excuse my lack of knowledge. What are the advantages for this mod? My ls1 engine is from a 2002 camaro so I dont have to modify my block for a ls6 valley.

With mine, before the VC and CC, the back of the throttle plate was alway wet with oil. After, throttle plate is completely dry, 2 years after doing the installs. The CC needs to have a filter, otherwise it's useless - mine's homemade, filter is foam shopvac material, which works great. Also the ls6 pcv eliminates the hoses running in back of the block, which can crack where you can't see them.

So can I do the ls6 manifold and keep the ls1 coolant lines and hack up the bottom of the intake and the ls6 valley cover, or will the ls6 coolant lines clear the ls6 intake with the ls6 valley cover?

That's not true -- only if it has a LS6 block is it supposedly not required to make the modification. My 2002 needed the modification.

I have the valley cover off and inspected the block before I posted this.

...

I guess I have a ls6 block

You were $379.44 ($71 for S&H) but the 2 other internet GM parts dealers were $364.09 & $342.57

I would've been happy to buy from you but 10% less is a big difference & don't want to call to try to get a price match when I can do everything over the internet.
