From all the y pipes i have built for people using the flowmaster merge that had pacesetter y pipes .... very very little that i noticed but then i hear people talk about it being different.

I never felt a power gain either but im sure there is 1 or 2hp to be had. You wont feel 2hp though

Thank you Maryland Speed for posting this up. You guys asked for a true merge in this pipe and we listened. As for power difference, post up what you guys find.

Keep Kookin' with Kooks!

I'm seriously considering it just for the potential sound difference.

I would think the new merger would be worth a few HP, but not 8-10 unless you're also going with a larger exit into a larger 3.5" to 4" cat-back exhaust. IMO, their new Y-pipe merger is a nice improvement, but it would have to be noticeably better to be comparable to a Vibrant Y-merger to get anything close to 8-10 with no other changes.

Yes do it, I'm sure it'll have a audible tone difference, even if it's only slight. It should also free up a few HP.

Red face Why so expensive???

What's up guys , I have been putting off long tube headers for a couple of years now but it seems to me that they got much , much , much more expensive , I wouldn't say I'm cheap so I only have been looking at Kooks, ARH, and anything made of 304 stainless oh ya and a catted y pipe cause I don't want any check engine light . So my questions are:
1. 1600 bucks , is it a big power gain on a 1998 camaro ss?
2. Can I do something better performance wise for the same money?
3. Should I do shorty headers and a high flow catted y pipe ?
4.why are headers so expensive ?
5. Why are headers so expensive ?
6. I was looking for headers only 3 years ago and don't remembers being this expensive?
7. I've talked to people that have had headers bought and installed for 1500 bucks?
8. Is there a quality stainless header and catted y pipe with ease of install like the expensive headers out there?

Sorry for the long post but I still can't understand why so expensive , should is forget headers and do wheels and tires, a stall converter , etc? Well thx for listening and so far my mods are MTI clear lid, eibach pro kit lowering springs , and GMMG cat back

Well those brands are expensive because they are made of quality material, in the USA. That's what it costs nowadays, but i do feel your pain!

Check the for sale section too, you can get killer deals on 1 3/4 headers now that a lot of people want to go 1 7/8

You can get a much better deal by calling sponsors such as Maryland speed for kooks. They can only advertise so low online. Don't bother with shorty headers and definitely go 1 7/8". TSP sells a decent header SS for a good price also.

I'd still prefer the Flowmaster scavenging merge.

FM merge is nice.....I've read the best way is dual 3" to 4" then back down to 3" in the I-pipe.....which is what that merge does. Biggest downside is it doesn't come in SS, at least it didn't when I was looking into it before I went TDs.

That's correct, still no stainless merge from FM. I recently got a catted Y-pipe with the FM merge, it's in sections. I'm gonna have all but the cat sections power coated.
