Default I did something bad! (O2 sensors)

Well, I pulled a dumb move, I used the stock O2 sensors to plug the holes in the off road y pipe & cut the wires because they wouldn't reach. I didn't think I would need any O2 sensors after the tune. DUH, not true! What is my best option now? Car is throwing the 4 codes for the front O2 sensors, will this hurt anything until I buy new sensors?

id think you'd run pig rich without the front o2's. have you tried to just cut and slipce some new wires where you cut them? people make 02 extensions like that.

btw dude i see you have the zo6 cam...what kind of performance did you pick with it? been thinkinga bout getting one of those cause im dont want a cam that lopes like a ****, just a few extra ponies at the rearwheels.

sorry jason, but i'm gonna kinda have to laugh at you on that one

yes you can make your own 02 extensions..but i do not recommend it. why?

because the wire for 02's is not copper and solder won't stick to it..you'll have to use butt connectors..problem with that is butt connectors can restrict the signal from the 02, we foudn this out the hard way on the dyno.

this is gonna be a slightly expensive mistake on your part i'm afraid...you will need to buy new 02 sensors and then the proper extensions from one of the sponsors if you want to fix it right.

i wouldn't drive the car until you fix it to be safe, not sure what it'll do but if it dumps a ton of fuel or runs way lean either way you could hurt the motor potentially

I knew I shouldn't have done that!

I am going to have to bite the bullet & buy some new parts I guess. I am going to park the car today any way, I am going to STL for the weekend.

slik98z- I added a bunch of mods at the same time as the cam. I just got my PCM back yesterday with the new shift points set, so I don't really know how good it runs yet.

If you got the car tuned with LS1 edit - you do not need O2's at all... I think I posted on your other post. I have an extended set and sims for sale...

uh wrong. you need the front 02's no matter what.

the REAR 02's can be deleted by a tune.

how else would the computer be able to be tuned/know what is going on.

unless some new fangled innovation in ls1 tuning has come about and no one has told me about it but i doubt it

I thought you could just delete the o2 codes when you get the car tuned?? I hope so because I just sold my o2 simms because I was going to get the o2 codes deleted.

I "thought" you didn't need them. I now know the front 2 can't be deleted via LS1 Edit.

What length of extensions do I need for MACs?

'02 SLP#686- Sending PM.

I know the fronts and rears are the same par wise (except they all have slightly different lengths) but not sure if the 98-02's are the same or if it is 98-00 and 01-02.

should all be the same.

jason, not sure how long of extensions you will need for mac's. on my hooker longtubes i just needed one 12" one for the passenger side, the divers side was fine with the factory length.

you can get under there and measure easy enough..you don't want to buy one that is way too long because then you have to deal with zip tying up the extra amount out of the way so it doesn't hit the header and/or the ground.

You can mix and match O2 sensors, it doesn't matter where on a 98-up LS1. The wires are exactly the same length and all.

I just jacked it up @ lunch, the 12" should be just fine.

Anyone got 2 rear O2 sensors they are not using?
