Default How do you connect the end of the headers to the x-pipe?

Do you have to weld a flange on the end of the header collector and the beginning of the x-pipe to connect them together? Is that how most people/shops do it? Just curious because I figured my headers were going to have work done to them. (welding flanges on them) How come longtubes dont come with flanges built onto them anyway? Whats the best flange to use? Thanks.

alot of y-pipe or x-pipes like the mufflex im running just slides over and clamps down. my old headers had 3"ball flanges welded on the end of the headers and the oposite ends on the y-pipe. so with 4 bolts it was intalled. headers needed recoating anyhow so after that it looked like it came with them welded on. not sure if thunder has them on there site, but i know they have them, call up there and tell them you want two 3" ball flange sets(male and female.) i think they are in the area of 35$ a set. one side is threaded so all you need is 4 bolts to hook it together that match the threads.

How is your current headers and Y-pipe hooked up? It can probably be done that way or you could weld flanges on it.

I currently have the FLPs, but Im thinking of getting a set of Kooks and having a true dual system built for it and I noticed that there was nothing at the end of the Kooks collectors, that is why I asked. So I guess Im going to have the shop thats going to fabricate my system weld on some flanges. Should I get the 2 bolt or 3 bolt flanges?

DVST8OR: Did you coat your duals? If so, with what?

Or simply go with a slip fit and clamps. That will likely be easiest / cheapest, but less elegant a solution.
