Default exhaust question about mix and matching

picked up a firehawk for my 3rd ls1, and i love it except for the slp loudmouth ll system on there. i have the bbk long tubes with bbk ORY, then converges into the slp system. the tone is quiet at idle and at WOT seems to be mostly all rasp. my question is could i get just a muffle from some other system say GMMG or flowmaster/borla/etc and remove the slp bullet and put the muffler in its place or would the whole system need to be removed and another system installed

A good merge would help with the rasp

I would say try replacing the SLP loudmouth muffler. I would say keep the SLP piping because it is stainless steel and mandrel bent and replacing the muffler is cheaper. Possibly, like stated above, try a good merge too. Looking to do the same setup your car has and changing the muffler when I finish my engine swap.

Yes you can remove the LMII muffler from the intermediate pipe of your exhaust and put another bullet muffler with a similar length and 3" inlet/outlet and it will work just fine. That's what people do when they say that they have a "Borlamouth". It is the SLP Loudmouth catback with a Borla XR1 swapped in where the old LMII muffler used to be. People seem to really like the Borlamouth a lot more than the original Loudmouth catback once they put longtubes in there. It will rasp LESS too.

actaully this was my next question, how an borla xr-1 would fit/sound in there. or a similar bullet like the moroso spiral flow. i was unsure tho if these bullets are meant to be 1 on each pipe, vs both pipes converging into a single bullet.

OP I had the same thing as you basically, but with the LM1...talk about loud and raspy lol!! Had a Flowmaster merge welded in with a Magnaflow 14419 bullet muffler, and it killed almost all the rasp, and has a much deeper tone

ok so heres the plan so far, id like to pick up one of the flowmaster merge y pipes, and a single borla xr-1. now with my current setup being the the bbk longtubes and the supplied 2.5 inch ORY, does anyone see any issues with fitment or install? any paticular size xr-1 in length or width? and how about the flowmaster merge? do they offer a 2.5 in and 2.5 out?

You want 3" in 4" out, and as long as the XR-1 has similar dementions as the LM 2 then a good exhaust should be able to make it work. That's why I chose the 14419 Magnaflow...almost the exact same dimentions as the LM 1 and LM 2

+1 for the Magnaflow bullet muffler. I personally did the dynomax bullet, but it still has a lot of drone at certain rpms (which I don't mind). Magnaflow bullets always sound good though especially with a proper merge.

Why would I do 3" in and 4" out? The bbk ory piping is 2.5 And thats what the flow master merge will be splicing into. And the xr-1 or magna flow would be using The existing SLP over the axle parts and exhaust tips. I don't want to dump it at the axle

Im sorry,I missed that. Yes if it's a 2.5 on the BBK then you obviously need that on the inlet side

Yes the XR-1 or Magnaflow muffler would be the only thing needed to be changed. Everything else before as well as after the muffler would NOT need to be changed at all. I did that same thing with my SLP Powerflo catback. Here is the exact muffler I used: http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...ng-muffler-3-/ I had it welded but you can clamp it on too.

Here is a pic of it under the car:

Just swap your LMII muffler with this or a Magnaflow and that's all you have to do.

IMO, spend a couple dollars more(+$5) and get the 409ss FM Y250300S. I'd also wouldn't hesitate to cut the exit end of the FM merger down shorter since it's fairly long.

Ill be doing the Borla XR1 this spring to bring my exhaust down a notch or three. Also thinking about a high flow cat but want to see how the borlamouth is first.

I cut the original LM1 muffler off of my system and had a pair of Moroso Spiral Flows welded into the system just before the exhaust tips. With 1 3/4" LTs and custom Y pipe with the Flowmaster merge it sounds great on a mostly stock car.
