I can only comment on the systems I'm familiar with.

I had an slp 2otl and it had a really bad rasp when I removed the cats. With the cats it was OK.

I went to a hooker (still no cats) and it was nearly rasp free. I added a bullet in the I and the rasp is gone.

The worst ever is my friends ws6 with a Borla, headers and no cats.

Have you ever heard the B&B? i don't think it had any rasp when I heard one not that long ago.....not sure if car had cats though.

Duals with crossover give the best sound...and for the price of an expensive cat-back plus a Y-pipe I'd just get duals

Anybody have some sound clips of rasp? I have this buzzing noise and almost a rattle when I first start the car. The buzzing noise is about 1500-1700 rpms, but you can't really hear it with the windows open. The exhaust is not touching any heat shields...but could it be making them vibrate that much? I have the Flowmaster catback.

If it were rasp it would be more audible with the windows open right?

I've had 4 exhaust cat backs with headers and no cats, and the ONLY thing that got rid of it for me was bullets in the y-pipe ( where cats would be ). A bullet in the i-pipe would work too; I have 3-1/2" exhaust so fitting a bullet in the i-pipe was too big for me, thus in the y-pipe. FWIW.

How can that be?

I run the SLP D/D, with LT's AND cats and I definitely hear rasp. Its not bad, but its definitely noticable.

Perhaps there's some persons in this thread that doesn't know what rasp is???

Guys, this is not difficult...

ANY LS1 F-body running a no cat Y-pipe set-up will have some raspy/poppy sounds to it no matter what cat-back system it is going through. It's just that some systems like the SLP dual/dual or Hooker only have a little rasp this way while others such as the Borla, SLP Loudmouth, Flowmaster, or cutouts have a ton of raspiness in their tone. And most of the other cat-back options out there are somewhere in between the exhausts I just mentioned. Putting a Dynomax Bullet Muffler in the I-pipe will help some, but doesn't get rid of it entirely.

The ONLY way to basically have a rasp free exhaust set-up with no cats on an LS1 F-body is to run TRUE DUALS using either an X or H-pipe. Totally gets rid of that nasty rasp and sounds flat out intimidating on most cars. Nothing sounds better or meaner IMHO...

Mike

I gotta agree with half of the people in here. I've had ZERO rasp with my GMMG. If you have the funds, definitley pick it up.
