Default WTF?? New Pacesetter Y same diameter as I pipe???

Hourang and I did a pacesetter install this weekend on his car, headers went in awesome, got the Y up, and got it butted up to the I pipe, they are the SAME size!!! WTF?? We tried prying the I pipe opening apart some, but with little room under the car we didnt have much success. We had to take the car to a shop to have it expanded then had it assembled. They butt raped him on the price too! So his $125 Y pipe ended up costing 2x's as much, very not cool.
When we did the Y and headers on my 99 we didn't have this problem at all. So a little warning to you 98 guys going with the Pacesetter new Y, make sure it's the right diameter before starting or get a pipe expander.

Heh, we put it back in, and Hourang prayed. I told him he's crazy, but it's been ~100 miles on his car, I don't think it's coming out.

HAHAH no, its totally fine man, their was still like a 1/2in of tubing left and bolted down it shouldnt move, the rest of the tube is stuck in there, i tried prying it out, its stuck so im not too worried about leaks as the oil shouldnt go by the tube thats stuck in there.

the new motor comment, LMAO, shhh how you think i got a new trans for my last car, neutral slams, quick and fun way to have a reason to get a new trans, anyone see that new comercial about the guy burying his grill to get a new one? LMAO.

anyway the ypipe thing is bullcrap, their is no way in hell that we coulda put that ypipe in the right way without expanding the openings, needless to say the next time i install one of these y pipes ill make sure i get a pipe expander first, thing just fell into place once they expanded it.

BEAUTIFUL! 0 kmember issues, 0 hitting on the floorpan issues, looked like it was a little close to the torque arm but not as bad as v8maros. once that sucker is positioned right its all good

So, is this an issue with the 98 exhaust not being wide enough, or did your ypipe not have the correct size pipe on it?

not sure if it is a year related issue or new ypipe design issue, the ypipe was the same diameter as the Ipipe.

i had a borla catback and at first i too thought it was the same diameter...just kept chopping small 1" pieces off of the i pipe till it slid in...i remember someone saying the old ypipes had this problem or maybe it was where the header/collector met, not sure.

My loudmouth I-pipe didnt fit over my supposedly "new revised pacesetter Y" it bangs on the floorboard sometimes, and it hits the torque arm.

yeah its not fit right, i would have an exhaust shop fix it or try to fix yourself, the ends that go to the headers and where the ypipe pieces meet need to be expanded so that the ypipe can be put into position properly. i dont know how they expect you to install the ypipe the way it is, pretty gay if you ask me, **** should work out the box and not require an exhaust shop to mend the pipes to work.

You could have just cut the I-pipe back to where the pipes would just butt together and them used a band clamp (that's really what band clamps are made for). you would have saved some cash and the hassle of moving the car.

While putting together in my garage, I noticed the collectors had an oval shape to them. Took some poundiing with a rubber hammer to get them round. The ypipe wouldn't even start going on. Once I got the collector nice and round, it slid right on.

yeah well i coulda got it to work but cutting it but that wasnt the only problem, we could not get the pipes to fit right and the ypipe was butt against my driveshaft!! we didnt have any of these problems installing it on v8maro's car besides the ypipe banging the bottom of the car. the bottom line is the only way to get the ypipe to fit right was to have the pipes expanded a little so they slide together easier.

I had my I-pipe expanded, and it fits fine, I am just pissed about the banging. I am going to try a poly tranny mount to hopefully cure most if not all of it.
