Dude, I'm going to cut exhaust vents into my pipes. I just haven't decided if its gonna be before or after the muffler... Just give me some goddamn advice other than "durrrr don't do it"

My current car is a 99 Z. its not an LT. I don't know why you didn't read my first post. Thank you so much for sharing your humor with me. Its making me feel soooooooo good right now. I'm gonna be running up and down my driveway revving my drill up and laughing my *** off with confidence

Fumes aren't gonna be an issue if I cut into the outlet pipes. This is what I'm considering. And wouldn't getting the manual cutout be a lot worse, fume wise? I mean, I can't exactly get out of the car in heavy traffic and plug it

Don’t listen to these haters. You seem to have done some research and made up your mind, give it a shot and let us know how it works. I’m excited to see the vid of how this sounds.

Huh? What exactly would drilling holes after the muffler accomplish

It would prevent fumes from getting trapped under the car. It would also be quieter. All right I'm gonna get started

If you're insistent on just drilling holes for more sound, do it in the back of the muffler. With a long bit you could drill through some of the internal baffles, resulting in a more actual straight through muffler. With a hole saw you could drill a large single hole in the back & drill into the baffles with a smaller long bit.

I did this as a 14 year old with my first car, till I saved enough money to buy some used sidepipes for 20 bucks & hook up myself.

No sidepipe jokes please, this was the early 80's.

Just trying to give you a better option along the lines of what you're wanting to do without telling you to not to.

nice. I'm just worried about making it too loud by damaging the baffles. Then I'd have to get a new muffler, rather than just weld some holes closed. seems like an ok idea though. If I drill the Y-pipe on the bottom, it shouldnt get too loud, depending on the size of the holes right?

Oh, I see, makes sense now. Why not just drill holes before AND after the muffler and see which you like best?

Just curious OP, how old are you?

Manual Cutout is $30.

Collect 600 bottles and cans on a busy strip friday night and you have yourself a free flowing exhaust.

Good Luck

dude, I just finished talking about fumes under the car and how you can't get out in traffic to close a manual cutout. Also, I just said I don't want excessive noise, just a little more than stock

So let me get this straight now...you are going to drill holes in the outlet pipes of the exhaust after the muffler in an attempt to reduce restriction and make the car louder? That's the current plan?

Well if you put it that way, I guess the only way that would work is by cutting off the outlets and enlarging the hole... guess I'm cutting at the Y

Have you considered asking technicians at one or more muffler shops in your area for their input on your idea? Perhaps someone near you can give you some sound advice without the insults and profanity that persist here. Good luck, man!

yeah that sounds like a good idea, but my area is full of mickey mouse mechanics. took them several tries before the head gasket on my 97 wasn't spewing out coolant. I like to avoid them at all costs. They just wanna sell you ****. I think I kinda know what to expect. I'm just gonna get it over with before this guy runs out of gif images

Why dont you spend all this time youve wasted on such a dumb idea and look for a job to pay for an exhaust.

This is a sad day for this site

OK I made the incision right where the 3 in. pipe goes into the muff, so the exhaust still shoots out the back. cats and res are intact. sounds pretty epic. At idle its quiet enough to not draw any attention but at WOT it screams. Great job, me! I'm putting the vid together. I'll post it tonight. Right now I gotta go to my mom's and help her paint a fence. Thanks for all the support guys. I'll post the link to the before/after vid and how I did it later today.

Thank you. It needs a bit of smoothing, but I tried to cut the bottom of the pipe so the hole is around the same 3 inch dimension as the inlet pipe. I cut it about 2 inches before the inlet goes into the muffler. I essentially did a manual cutout, and when inspection time comes, I have a piece of metal i can weld on or seal with paste and clamp. rendering of the vid just finished. I'm uploading. should have the link in 10 mins
