Default A lid is a Lid is a ......

I have two questions that have been poked at several threads but the threads are older before the larger TBs and Intakes.

So on a 418 motor fast 102/102 setup that is running speed density:

1. Would there be any advantage of a 98-104mm lid VS a stock sized aftermarket lid?

2. I have a stainless now that is indeed 3.5" diameter I love the stainless but was wondering about the smaller 3.5" from the lid going into everything else 4" or larger.
I will assume heat soak could be an issue with it too. When idling my IATs go up vs driving about 10-12 degrees. Are you plastic guys seeing cooler temps?
I am talking on a 90 degree day. I drive my car any and everywhere i drive my daily driven cars.

Non sponsored stainless lids that you don't have to worry about them
cracking = 70 bucks shipped. Fitment is fine if you put a little time in it. I don't mind that... They look OK my car is no show car.

104mm plastic lids that will crack = 200 shipped. Often fit better and as good as it gets as far as heat soak.

The heat soak debate was 50/50 when I researched... some said yes others said it doesn't matter. I wish I had a plastic one to test against the stainless one but I don't. Thats why I asked if the plastic guys here noticed IAT swings of 10-12 degrees on a 90 degree day idling vs driving.

I wouldn't be worried about heat soak in an intake or air lid.

I've had composite intake set ups that get so hot you can't touch them. Everything will get hot after a while, the heat soak is a myth. Edelbrock didn't get rich off of composite intakes.

Lid choice is like oil choice. Always a debate. I'm sorry but for how much $$$ NA HP costs I'm going with the biggest and least restrictive air intake as possible. I'm currently running SD with a fast toys lid. And as long as your hood doesn't slam on the lid it shouldn't crack.

If you are concerned about heatsoak on a stainless lid then coat it with some ceramic header paint. Problem solved.

Hell coating if with virtually anything my prevent it from conducting external temps internally to some extend
