I went from kooks to kooks and saw 20rwhp 15rwtq. Same dyno after a touch up tune. Car was already tuned with the 1 3/4". I already had H/C FAST 92 and TDs so there was definitely a bottleneck in my old setup.

That's a big gain. Same brand, all that changed was primary size. Good info right there.

JSYK the Mac mids aren't that bad (search) and do make good top-end power with the collector mod (which I did not have). The SE 1 7/8" were so cheap I had to go for it. Car did make 540rwhp and went high 10's and 127mph on the Macs!!

I would also assume that larger headers give more gains on a HCI or a bigger cube motor than if you had a stock setup.

Going 2" over 1 7/8" on a stock motor may give you 10hp
Going 2" over a 1 7/8" on a HCI bigger cube motor may give 15+hp.

This is just a guess.

I wonder what the HP/TQ difference would be on a H/C/I 346ci with Speed Engineering 1 7/8 headers vs Kooks or American Racing 1 7/8 headers? I know the collector design is supposed to be better on the Kooks/American Racing headers, but how much more power would that yield?

HI! Im not posting here so much and often, but what i know from my experience for now. I have 3gen Nova with stock -99 ls1 engine and transmission fom TA. My first setup was stock steel manifolds with some little mods to fit my Nova and just last winter i made LTs from oldskool BB manifolds 1 7/8 with 3,5" collectors. Terrible modification, but it can be done. With my completely stock engine it lost some midrange power and torq with 1 7/8. Maybe its got some more power in upper range, but its so little time to spend in hi rews so its pointless. Im looking forward to next summer, how its change with other heads, cam and intake.
