Default stock 4.8 replaced with new gm 5.3

I have a 2000 gm sierra 4.8 with 335000 miles. Came across a new gm 5.3 #19165628 that is supposed to fit the 2000 sierra. I read the specs and the cam has more lift and wider lobe spacing,2 degrees more. The price is about the same as a reman.I am concerned about emissions ,(california),do not want to do any tuneing. Has anyone have any experiance with this new 5.3?Do not want a junkyard engine.
Thanks for any input.

Thanks again

Welcome to LS1tech!

I don't think you'll have any problems with this swap. Being you're in Cali, you'll need to retain all existing stock emissions and exhaust stuff.

At most you would need a stock 5.3 tune flashed on the computer, but it would probably run fine on the stock tune.

Default 4.8 with 5.3

Thanks for the input,my biggest concern is the emissions testing.I've read somewhere that even the minimal alteration to the fuel curve programing can now be detected by the smog machine software which means automatic failure, this is why i don't want to do any tuneing. So my question is that the new 5.3 would run with the factiry 4.8 programing and if so would pass emissions and not damage the catalytic converters?I also assume that the 5.3 would be a direct bolt in?

Thanks for the information.
