Not sure why me posting in a old thread would make you say that irrelevant comment.

No there does not have to be. Usually there is a reason to make such a post. Whether to get more info or to solicit comments. Neither was mentioned. Did not mean to ruffle any feathers.

Build quality is good
Making power excellent
Fitment is poor. Collectors are basically in the floorboard.
Sound quality is shitty, typical for a cheap thin walled header.
Other LS headers I've had all fit better. Hookers, Kook's & Hawk's. They also sounded better etc.
I think you get what you pay for and the Speed Engineering are a good deal for that bottom dollar cheapo header.

I had a set of Speed Engineering 1 7/8 headers installed on my 02 Z28.

Well I have KOOKS 2"s on the 01 and absolutely zero fitment issues. I purchased the TSP 1-7/8's for the 99 racer but they haven't been on a running engine so can't speak for sound quality but I think more of that goes into the overall exhaust set up. Quality looks to be every bit as good as the KOOKS but they are a thinner gauge steel. TSP's get my vote.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I had zero issues with the fitment with my Speed Engineering setup. I bought them used from another member. Slipped right up and were 1 7/8 headers. Also have their 3" ORY. Zero issues there as well. I guess I got lucky. I am very pleased.
I think they have some consistency issues in manufacturing. My car has almost new motor mounts and that made fitment worse. I dislike my Speed Engineering headers enough to replace them when the new engine goes in the car.

Glad the S.E. headers worked out good for you.

Is that with Speed Engineering's Y pipe?
My 1 7/8 SE headers on my 02 Z28 had a similar issue. Its was the angle of the SE header primary that caused the issue on my car. We used my old Kook's Y pipe and didn't really see how the SE Y pipe could have had good fitment due to header collector angle.

Hello everybody I’m new and have been looking into these two headers but from reading about here in the forums people are saying SE doesn’t ship to California at all ? Nobody in CA has a way to purchase their products ? I was very interested in their complete system

Basically any vehicle newer than 1975 can't have long tubes and be smog legal. That's the jist of it....

I'm surprised any retailer would ship any sort of performance parts to California after what happened to Jegs.
Check the site market place sooner or later what you're looking for will probably show up.

Wow I was unaware about what happened to jegs that’s really unfortunate and seems unfair.
It’s not jegs fault someone installs parts on the vehicle and uses it on the street. This shouldn’t impact the company making/selling the parts.
Thank you for sharing, hopefully things change in the future

Speed Engineering probably isn't willing to RISK ending up on the wrong side of a big CARB fine.

I like that summit gives you the option to say the parts being ordered are for a smog exempt vehicle or non street registered vehicle.
For example in relation to the headers from this forum, upon purchasing who’s to say that even though the product is designed for ls1 vehicles how do they know that I’m not putting a ls1 into a 67 firebird swap ? No legal/smog issues there
