Default o2 sensors theory.

So i've seen the posts about the denso sensors being the best and such. But this got me to wondering if all gm oxygen sensors send the same signal to the pcm. From what I've read(haven't tested) people have indirectly said something close to this. In that the rear and front sensors can be swapped. So excluding wiring harness issues can I use any gm oxygen sensors on lets say a 2006 5.3l. This is just thinking of if the pcm would read the signal correctly.

You have to ruin a 3-wire sensor on a 3-wire harness, and a 4-wire sensor on a 4-wire harness (has to do with ground and isolation thereof).
