Thermostat "correcting" 
No drill bit. Shimming is something you'll find in some
of the howto sites, but when I tried this I found that
my ('02) 'stat was different than the one in the howtos
and if I shimmed it enough to get ~ 175F operation,
it was basically always somewhat open and had a poor
(wide) control range; it didn't hold tight like the stock
or the Hype-Tech "160" ones do. After all that I tried
the Hype-Tech and it was better-enough (in terms of
control) that I haven't messed with anything else.
Stocker I held 194F +/- 2F w/ fans running. Hype 160
I hold 177F +/- 3-4F; the radiator is a bit challenged
on hot days and the 160 is just a little sloppier. With
the shimming I was seeing like +/-10F swings, since it
never closed.
I recommend you just get the fans set right and keep
the stocker. These motors should not have any ping
problems at 194F operation.
