Help!!!! Clunk is real!!!! So I have a 2000 trans am ws6 it's auto with a d1sc pro charger. Recently it has been making a clunk noise but only when I let off the gas and hit the gas in 4th gear? Is this my transmission saying 4th is on its way out? The car shifts into 4th fine if your on it through all gears. Could it be my universal joint? I'm unsure?! The transmission is smooth on all shifts and is built.
Might start with the trans mount. What you've got in
4th gear is the added action of converter lockup,
which can hit the driveline harder than an unlocked
converter. You could also be rolling the motor and
just finding some exhaust banging, 4th gear's low
reduction means the motor rolls more for a given
back-torque from the driveline.
