Borla sounds bad Hi everyone so i have a stock ls1 in my 98 trans am with flp long tubes running into a catless y into a borla. Now i am not sure which plate is in the borla but it is not closed off. Now the problem is when i get to about 2250rpm it just sounds l raspy and not good to me and on the highway has drone. I like the sound at start up until 2250. I just want a nice clean muscle car sound while working with what i got. I was thinking maybe adding a bullet would work? Or maybe trading for another cat back? I do not care if i loose some volume if it sounds cleaner. I do not have the money to be build/buy true duals. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Im still thinking about true duals but have several concerns. Im 17 i come home late and dont want to wake up the whole neighborhood. I have girls in the car and most of them do not appreciate a very loud exhaust.i daily drive the car i dont need it to be ridiculously loud. And lastly they are dumped i think id want them to run all the way to the back. Sorry if any of these are false assumptions these are based off of what i have read and ive never heard any in real life

1. What y pipe are you running?
2. Have you thought about running an electronic cut out where the plate in in the tail pipe? I have the same exhaust as you and that's what I did. When I want it loud I press a button and the plate is wide open. When I want it quiet driving through neighborhoods, I'll close it completely and exhaust only comes out the passenger tail pipe. Even with a big cam it's quiet.

I also have long tubes, ory, and borla adjustable catback. I put a magnaflow resonator in the I-pipe, which took care of most of the rasp. It has zero drone, and is not hardly any quieter, just a better sound. I want to eventually go to true duals, but I'm happy with it for now.
I personally never like the sound of a Borla on a LS...They're popularity definitely carried over from the LT cars where they were very popular and sounded a lot better...imo anyway.
