stupid AC tensioner pulley

stupid AC tensioner pulley Is squealing like a rat in heat. I spray it down with silicone lubricant which temporarily remedies the squealing. However I'm sure the bearings in it are failing. Soooooo...is it easy to swap?

You can still get it from the top pretty easy. You are going to need a star bit. I got my tensioner from the dealer at cost for like 40 bucks. I think it is around 55-60 orginally for them. I had the same problem about a month and 1/2 ago.

You can get you a can of spray lubricant and target each pulley individually until the squealing stops. That will tell you where it's coming from. In my case BOTH the tensioner and the AC compressor needed to be replaced. The clutch in my compressor was going out.
Replacing the tensioner...omg that was a 5 minute swap. I can't believe I was remotely concerned. All you need is a 13 mm socket. One bolt... Oh, btw...you can't purchase the pulley separate from the tensioner anymore. At least I couldn't find a place that would...so I bought it from GM. $91 for the entire tensioner/pulley. Oh well...no more squeaky!

mine started making noise out at the Texasmile event. After checking with the dealer @ $90 for the entire part I decided to take the pulley off and pack it with bearing grease (inside the sealer caps) and re-install....hasnt made a noise since. I would highly recommend trying this before spending the cash at the dealer.
