Default another raspy question

the borla adjustable cat back sounded great on my 02 WS6 when stock, now with LE ported 799 heads, EPS cam, ARH headers and there ORY pipe i cant get rid of the rasp,even added a dynomax bullet before the axle,looking for a y pipe back exhaust with no rasp on the quiet side, dont need loud, any suggestions?

Your rasp is probably coming from your y pipe, your gonna want a stepped merge collector if you don't have one already.

the y pipe is an ARH merge collector, its 3" all the way, i eliminated the 2 3/4 step down

Borla is straight pipes if you are not running the plate on the passenger side. Heck yeah its gonna rasp with no muffling at all. Your ARH has one of the best merges on the market. Its not the merge. LS motors are inherently prone to rasp. You just have to tune the exhaust around it. Muffler selection, pipe size, even tips. I worked on a car that had a pacesetter ory and loudmouth 1 catback. Thats is the raspiest setup on the market, but this guy had these huge 4 or 5" truck tips welded on the tailpipes that looked terrible but his exhaust was smooth and little to no rasp. I couldnt believe it.

I guess those huge cannon tips gave the exhaust a chamber no resonate in and absorbed the rasp.

Cut the ARH Y out and weld in a vibrant performance, magnaflow, or FM Y merge in its place. The Rasp will be gone.

You will also be able to remove the DM Bullet once the Y merge is replaced.

OP, get rid of the bullet you used. They are known to not have much packing to begin with.


Pick up a 3" Magnaflow bullet, #14419 and be done with it.

i will try the Magnaflow bullet like the dr. suggested, the dynomax made no difference at all,not willing to cut up my y pipe yet

When I added a FM merge and a MagnaFlow 14419 my rasp was like 90% gone

The cause for the rasp is the design of the Y pipe exhaust. I never heard of rasp till I got my fbody. A normal dual exhaust will never rasp. I'm thinking really Hard about the Hooker Blackheart true dual exhaust.

do you have any pics? I'm in the same boat I have the adjustable borla and it was fine till I cammed it and now its raspy and the muffler drones out once you hit about 3000-3500 rpm. I am doing heads this winter and may just get the new hooker black heart system to try and resolve this

I know this isn't the popular answer but I have tried quite a few exhausts...GMMG, Flowmaster, Borla, and now Hooker. The hooker has the best sound and least rasp of all of them in my opinion. I also like how its not even half as loud as the GMMG was which was way too loud with LT's and no cats.

All of these exhaust were behind LT's and ORY with heads/VRX5 cam.
