Alternator Replacement So I blew the hose off of the bottom of the power steering reservoir and you guessed it, fluid went everywhere including in my alternator. It has been acting weird, sometimes it will act normal maybe a little bit of overcharging and then it will be a constant 18V on my gauge with the interior lights becoming super bright. I'm not driving it for long periods of time right now because I don't want to destroy this battery but I also want to see if it will dry out and go back to normal but will replace it this weekend if I need to.
Anyway I heard the parts store alternators for these cars suck but I also don't want to spend 400 bucks on a new alternator. Anyone have any suggestions?

I just went through the same "what to do"...reman's suck, powermaster expensive and mixed reviews...I got a recommendation on a reputable local shop to go through/rehab mine, cost 40 bucks

Looks like this may be the way to go. delco and 50 bucks cheaper than parts store remans.

Alternator Replacement Just make sure you disconnect the battery and also the single wire connector on top the alternator before removing the mounting bolts....ended up breaking mine.

And I've read that the little wire is super fragile... and I'm not exactly known for finesse

I never had any charging issues, but my car has burned up a couple fuel pump relays, and had some strange intermittent stuff this year. I just bought the thing in April, so i just assumed there's probably some kind of upgraded fuel pump without the necessary wiring to accompany it... now I'm wondering if the alt was on its way out and had some voltage spikes or something to eat those relays?

Most people upgrade to a Walbro pump. I'm running dual 450s. The most common is a single 255 for lower power guys. They also have a 340.

It's weird bc it'll just cut out going down the road, and at one point even died and had to be towed home. Couple hundred $ worth of diagnostic labor and we tried a relay just to see and problem solved. I bought this car from a forum member and he had a whole spreadsheet of the upgraded parts, but wasn't sure on the fuel pump... it's like 415 rwhp and he had time slips to back it up plus the n2o, so i doubt it's a stock pump with all the other high dollar stuff that's on it

451 LSX block, mast intake, powerglide, Fab9, full suspension, etc etc etc...
I wouldn't be 100% on that. LOL
