Default Bolt on 12 sec trans am?

First time f body owner, been doing alot of reading and i'd like my cars to break 12's Provided the driver does his job. Whats the most cost effective way to get in the mid 12's. So far i have an slp lid lol. A few good pointers would be great. Thanks guys!

Like CHEAPEST way, bar none? Gut it, drag radials on factory wheels, spray. Done, the end. Mid 12's right there. More practical? Depends on if you want to keep full interior, and if you want to open the engine or not. Also if you want to spray or not. Gotta be more specific man. Assuming you want full interior, and assuming you don't want to spray, this: Used ls6 intake, pacesetter headers & off road Y, dump the exhaust no mufflers or cats, again drag radials, decent cam, tune. That will get you into the 12's for less than 2 grand.

Full interior, no spray and not really looking to tear into the engine.
Im thinkin headers and y
3.73 instead of the 3.23 gears i have now unless not needed?
A decent tune ( any good guys to get a good tune from if i just ship the ecm out?)

I would find a reputable tuner who is local to you. A dyno/street tune will always be better than a mail-order tune.

Is the car a 6 speed or automatic?

Long tube headers, a good tune, 3.73s, and a good set of sticky tires should get you into the 12s without issue. You may need to address the suspension, as well.

Is your car manual or auto? If it's an auto take the advice above. Tires, converter and tune. If it's a manual, headers, gears and tires and tune

We went from 13.3x bone stock on our C5 to 12.2x with a Yank SS4000, 3.90 gear, tune and drag radials. No headers, etc. Car was very streetable too.

A good stall converter and tires will get you there or close. If not a few both ons.

I have seen several bone stock auto cars with converters go 12's. Heck there was even a Ford magazine that tested one back in 98 to see what the mustang was up against and they got 12's out of a bone stock with converter f body. Idk what converter but it would need to be loose with sticky tires. My 6 speed 99 Z28 with nothing but a lid and LS6 intake went 8.45 in the 1/8th which comes out to a 13.1 in the 1/4. I was running regular Hankook tires on it and it had a very bad 2.0 60' so an auto with loose converter and tires should be a breeze.

Good exhaust 3600+ stall lid and good tune n drag radials rest is dependent on the DA and the driver

The car you are referring to was a bone stock SS 6-speed down to the dirty air filter.

I went 12.03 with DR, 3.23 gears, art carr 3500 stall and underdrive pulley. Full interior, cutting 1.59 60fts pacesetter long tubes with a junk yard x pipe setup
