Default Question about ORY banging fix

Wanted to try and fix my ORY from banging the floorboard today. My question is this, is there a difference between "muffler tape" and "header tape"?? I have searched for previous fixes and they state to wrap offending piece of ORY in header tape. I have some muffler tape at home. Will that work?
I'm planning on wrapping in the appropriate "tape" then adding a cut section of 3" rad hose followed by more "tape" Just want to make sure I don't use the wrong stuff and have it melt.
Thx in advance..

I good fix I've found is to install the Poly motor mounts on one of both sides. This will keep the motor from moveing as much Summit sells them as well as some of the sponcers I just don't know which ones carry them as far as the tape ETC... I can not answer your question as I have never had to use any before.

It seems like the radiator hose and the tape are 2 different attempts to fix it. You shouldn't need both. If you put the hose on, it will stay put and work fine.
The poly mount fix is a good solution, but some people have been very unhappy with the added roughness transferred to the chassis.

Im going to weld a valvespring in between my pipe and floorboard, and add a poly tranny mount. Hopefully it will cure my banging

That's a novel solution! I like that. Just don't weld the spring to both the floor and the exhaust. Pick one or the other.
If you do that, do you need to bother with the poly tranny mount?

The tape is there both to make sure it stays on and to keep it from melting. Not sure if the Y gets hot enough but I dont want to smell burning rubber. I just want to know if muffler tape and header tape are the same thing or if they are different??

Actually he wants it welded to both. Otherwise it will cause a rattling noise. Believe me. I had the weld break on mine once and it took me forever to find the rattle. Sounded like a heat shield. lol

Ill be welding it to both. If it breaks ill just cut the spring and weld in a new one.

Makes sense....
About header tape vs. muffler tape. The muffler tape is cheaper and has a level of heat resistance. The header tape is meant to insulate and has a higher level of heat resistance.
I think you should start with the muffler tape because I expect it will be good enough for this.

I just JB welded a short piece of 3/8" rubber hose to the bottom of the car above where the y-pipe was hitting. May not be the best looking fix, but it cured the banging right up.

Well, 2 wraps of muffler tape and 1 piece of radiator hose has cured 98% of my problems!! Only time I notice bang now is hard left cornering in 2nd gear. Couldn't get another piece of tape over the hose (I had to really shove it in there) So I hope it stays in place. Went for a 20 minute drive and didn't smell any burning so I think it will last until I have time to install poly motor mounts.
