Default Muffler recommendation

It's time for another muffler. The flowmaster that I have is about 10 years old and has been fine .. but is now rattling inside. I don't care about doing a cat-back system.
This is a stock exhaust with one in and two out. Just thought of getting a different sound than the flowmaster such as borla ....etc....

I do want it loud!

So you want loud on a stock exhaust?

Yes.
I guess our definition of loud differs. What I am taking off is loud to me.

I see. You could always do a single chamber Flowmaster. Have you considered a cutout?

Don't care to do a cut out .. that's louder than a want. It is my dd. Would the Flowmaster 40 be a single chamber? Honestly I'm not even sure what FM it is that I have on it now. It was put on 10 years ago.

Cool .. I'll check with the muffler shop. I was just curious of what other options are out there other than flowmaster.

Op, do you have headers or cats? Those things change the way different mufflers sound. Also, how do you rate the muffler thats on there now? You want something the same, louder, quieter? I can make a solid recommendation after I get that info.

I don't have headers and still have a cat. I could go with something as loud or just a bit louder than the flowmaster that's on it now. I think I just wanted something different than flowmaster. I have 2 of them on my `79 Firebird 400 with no cats and headers... so just looking for something different.

My exhaust is bone stock - I went from stock to Hooker Aerochamber, then to Flowmaster when the aerochamber rusted out. Sounds great. Best to listen to the different combinations on this site, then decide.

Well you are limited if you wanna keep the dual tailpipes. Thats considered a crossflow type muffler and there are only so many offered. If you are willing to go single in single out with one tailpipe your options open up x100. So many mufflers fit in that configuration. For a cheap muscle car racy sound a simple in/out 3 inch dynomax bullet muffler would do the trick. They are about 40 bucks on ebay. Because of the stock exhaust it won't be too loud driving around but should scream at wot.

Something just a tiny bit tamer but with a deeper tone would be a hooker aerochamber.

Thanks for the responses. I have been thinking about doing a cat back and possibly the LM1 or LM2. I've read that with the stock manifolds and cat, they're not too bad. I could do the install as well. With 300k on the clock - I've always viewed when something "breaks" as an opportunity to upgrade. If I didn't like the LM1 (louder I think than the LM2) then I have the option to change the resonator.

Thoughts?

Lm1 sounds good with stock exhaust up front.
