Fram paper filter will be better to keep stuff out of your motor. K&N will give you a bit more power but won't filter the air as well. I actually have both.

OEM paper style filters for the air filter are especially important for daily drivers. Better filtration = longer life and less power.

Oil filters... I give up. The minute you think you have a good one it can surprise you the next batch. I would just use an OEM filter and pray anymore.

Paper over oiled filters, the oil can screw up your MAF.

Wix on top, Fram (similar to all others) on bottom.

Wix filters have more pleats, more surface area. All paper filters flow pretty good but the Wix will do a bit better. CarQuest filters are made by Wix.

This is no longer true, carquest filters are now made by mahn I don't buy our filters anymore because of this fact. Advanced auto parts bought carquest over a year ago and they changed to mahn making all their inhouse brand filters like 2 months ago I think we changed over? you would have to find a carquest filter made before july. NAPA filters are all made by wix.

I knew the oil filters were changing makers, I didn't know about the air filters. Noted, thanks!

Wix filters can still be had from many sources.

I was unaware our air filters were ever made by wix i always thought they were made by mahn hummel because they won the bet everytime aka were cheapest for us to source them out from. I know the carquest blue oil filters use to be wix but pretty sure the carquest air filters after AAP bought carquest went to mahn right away. I can ask my DL when i go to work later today.

Had KN. Changed to a blackwing lid with a Fram. Supposedly the gains from oiled cotton type filters are minimal but I would think if you want every ounce of power definitely go with a KN.

I know people who just remove their filter at the track.

To answer the question, I run a k&n. The key is to not over oil them. I've had it on 2 different vehicles for a total of about 75k miles. I like that I can just take it out, hose it down with some cleaner and reoil it. Good as new.

I had a KN back in the 90's in an 86 GN. I have one now in a pickup truck. Both vehicles had it when I bought them. If the recent revelations about filtration, I've gone back to Fram but I still have the KN that came with the blackwing in the TA. Around here as long as you're not driving through some ******* landscapers 100 yd.³ dust cloud, or visiting an apple farm KN is probably fine.
