No drone muffler suggestions
Planning to build a proper exhaust for my 95 LT1. PS longtubes, catless y pipe single 3" to a ______muffler mounted under the trunk. I'm remaking the merge to flow better and eliminate any rasp.
I'm looking for something fairly tame and no drone as this will be my "winter/windows up exhaust". I will V-Band the exhaust before it goes over the axle so I can make a "summer/fun time" exhaust later on.
A Borla XR-1 seems to be popular for a quality muffler that has a low profile body to tuck up high. Magnaflow would also come to mind, but I have had Magnaflows on a 03 Mach 1 (factory manifolds/catless x pipe)that had a little cabin drone.
I had a Hooker MaxFlow muffler but I don't believe that was stainless, had a slightly tall body profile and was a little heavy.
When I build the "louder" setup I will look into a glasspack style.

In addition to looking at different mufflers, you should look into what a lot of truck guys are doing. With a few calculations that I don't remember off the top of my head, you figure the proper length pipe to weld in perpendicular to your main pipe to reflect and cancel the sound waves at a particular drone frequency. This is typically done for a narrow rpm/load window such as highway cruise speed, or whatever your most annoying nuisance droning condition is.

Yes sir. It's a Helmholtz resonator. Installed one on my GTO and currently running one with my Camaro now (glass pack with the resonator tube t'd off running under the trunk).
Not looking to add that though due to space allowed and pipe routing. I can do it with a much smaller glass pack style muffler though.

I'm a fan of a smooth note. Ideally i like the LS motor with Corsa exhaust, but a nice Borla/Magnaflow low note is nice too.
A Helmholtz resonator works well. Did wonders for my LT/catless Y and 3" magnapack GTO:
The calculation:
The expanded range to show how the tube length varies depending on RPM. I graphed only the 1/4 wave column I used 29" centerline on the GTO:

My only issue with that is ground clearance with my Koni/Strano suspension. Adding cats to a 3" y pipe makes almost a 3.5-4" cat body....further reducing ground clearance.
