Default 2.00, 2.02, or 2.04 intake valve stock LS1 shortblock + big cam

Trying to decide where to send a set of 243's to get worked. I am down to three companies, but i have a question about intake valve size:

For a stock LS1 shortblock, big cam, 1 7/8 headers, LSXR 90 right now, might go LSX 102 (throttle body is already 102mm).

I am getting new valves regardless, so what difference will 2.04 or 2.02 inake valves have over stock sized 2.00 valves?

More air, but less velocity?

Well you have it down to 3 companies , can you tell us their names? Im guessing that one is not Ai because I believe they do stock valve sizes. Most of the companies relate valve size increase to runner size . So as the volume increases so does the valve size usually, But everything being the same for comparison going to a 2.02 you probably see single digit cfm increase. You will probably see more flow as a percentage increase on the exhaust going to a 1.57 than on the intake side .

Texas-Speed (PRC), Advanced Induction, and TEA. All three have pretty similar flow numbers, but PRC has smaller intake runner port size, so velocity should be higher. When you factor in new valves and combustion chamber work, PRC ends up being $150-$200 cheaper than AI and TEA, plus PRC has a smaller intake port size, so velocity should be higher. However, AI uses stock intake valve size, PRC 2.02, and TEA 2.04.

Well I am surprised that Ai was one that you where considering . Because like I said they do stock size valves, but while they don't advertise it I have heard that TSP will do a 2.04 if you request it . But give them a call , ask for Kevin he is very knowledgeable and he will give you the 411 on all TSP heads.

Right now, I am just looking at flow numbers divided by the intake port CCs. I am trying to figure out how the valve size affects those numbers.

Also, I just realized that the AI flow numbers from a 4" bore, while the other two are from 3.9". Not sure how much that will bloat the flow numbers.

Quick Reply: 2.00, 2.02, or 2.04 intake valve stock LS1 shortblock + big cam
