Removal of water pump heater hose fittings
This is FYI for those who wish to replace the press in fittings with -AN fitting
I made a puller to use with the pump still mounted to the engine ( see pic's) .
I started by drilling a 5/16 hole in each fitting on pump ,about 3/8" to 1/2" from
pump, (try to be on center of fitting) and use two drills (from smaller than 5/16 then the 5/16 drill) . I used a 1/2-13 x 3 1/2" long, cut the head off ( hex) ,see pic, along with a 1 1/16, 1/2" drive deep socket to pull against see pic's . The 5/16 hole is to use a 5/16 pin in to pull with . The pin is 1 1/8" long total ,to be-able to fit inside the socket ,as shown in the pic's

Resurrecting this post. That is a the perfect solution that I was looking for! I have a LT-1 in a 1966 chevelle and have a extra port on the water pump that I have a rubber cap, for which I question how long it will last. I will now do this and put a screw in plug! No worries with a plug.
