Default question about amount of coolant

removed my throttle body the other day to clean it, and I was aware to expect some coolant leaking out, was not aware at how much came out from the steam pipes, quite a little puddle I had, (was not from the radiator side it was the side where the steam pipes are) my question is how should I make sure I have enough coolant in there when I start it back up? Ive read where to bleed it, some people put the front of their car up on ramps so the radiator neck is the highest part of the system and should help getting rid of air bubbles. Is this correct, really don't my car to overheat. Thanks
