Default possible new intake setup, would like opinions

this is my current intake setup.

it is a modified suncoast airbox. basically i took the baffles out of the hood and raised and sealed the airbox so when the hood is shut there is a 100% seal. the air intake path is very direct and IAT temps stay right at outside temperature when driving. the airbox has performed to my liking so far (420 hp, 400 ftlbs, trapped 120+ mph) but the only thing that concerns me is how the box necks down as it enters the MAF (you can see it in the third picture)

i was thinking of doing something like this

only using a single tapered oval filter. i would run 3.5" pipe. i could get this done for probably less than what i could sell the other setup for so i was seriously considering it. do you think i would see gains over my current setup. anyone who has done this setup or has pictures of other cars with this setup i would greatly appreciate it if you voice your opinion

if i were to do a couple WOT runs with ATAP, could checking the map pressure help determine if my intake is restricting me???

also i dont mind ditching the wash res, but will this work with AC and front bumper support?

thanks

The only downfalls are that this sort of intake requires that you trim the upper radiator support, and then the fact that water in the intake is a major concern. This is for more of a dedicated drag car unless you made some sort of blockoff plate for rainy days.

trimming isnt a concern, i dont think it will have a major effect on the structural integrity of the car. also water is not a big concern since i have driven from miami to tallahassee in a downpower and not had any water problems with my current setup which would be much more prone to water problems than this

biggest concerns are will it fit with the bumper support and ac, and will there be gains over the current setup

Well I dont have my ac condensor in place anymore so I dont know about fitting around that. I trimmed about an inch off the inside of the radiator support to get a 3.5" tube in there.

Water is more of a concern than you would think. You have to remember that those filters are going to be sitting about a foot above the airdam directing water straight into them. Granted it takes more of a vacuum to get water up that tube than down through your ramair filter, but heavy rain can drench the filter in a heartbeat...

I was using an Intake just like you are speaking of, it worked really well in my opnion, It is 3.5 mand bent aluminum, and has a K&N cone at the end. I am not using it anymore if you would be interested in it, My car now runs speed desnity.
Here are some pics.

I would like 75.00 for the intake w/ filter, and all silicone elbows and clamps

OR 125.00 for the entire intake system with 85mm Z06 Maf (Same size inside as the intake pipe so there is no restriction)

I know here in CA that hacking up the Rad support is concidered frame damage and you have to disclose that if you sell the car.

My question is, how does this compare with a sealed lower airbox, lid and FTRA? Granted there is a cost factor to consider between the two, but forgoing the hack job on the rad support should be a consideration.
