Rear cover alignment?

Rear cover alignment? I have an Align-It tool for alignment of the rear cover on my motor. But this tool only works if no seal is installed. And the rear cover I bought at Summit Racing comes with a pre-installed seal. Is the seal itself (along with the oil pan rail without gasket) enough to align the cover? Or should I knock the seal out so that I can use the Align-It tool and install a new seal (which I actually have)?

nah dude just lay a box level as a straight edge across the back of the block about where the oil pan will sit. clamp it down lightly. you may need to trim the edges of the rear cover seal with a razor so it's flush with the pan rail. then use a couple bolts to tighten it up so it's flush with the box level.
the main thing to avoid is the rear cover sitting proud above the pan rail. it'll leak really bad and then you can snap an ear off the oil pan trying to fix it (cry cry cry)

Ive never used a tool to install the rear or front cover and never had a problem. I can understand on an assembly line when youre doing 100+ covers a day but on a single motor

It is 100% worth it to align your front and rear covers to the block and oil pan. Is it really worth wondering "if" it's going to leak? It's easy to do. Just press put that seal and align it, and put the seal back in. Or, just spend the little bit of cash and buy a new rear seal. I wouldn't chance it, I have had covers leak at the corners before
