Default Hooker Blackheart

Good morning everyone. Hope someone can help me out with this. I recently had a Hooker Blackheart cat back system added. It has a nice sound but wasn't as loud as I was expecting. I didn't change out exhaust manifolds or cats so I'd assume I wouldn't hear much. Does anyone else have this setup and have the same noise level?

You wont get the sound you are likely looking for until you upgrade to headers and remove or upgrade the cats. Your stock manifolds are restrictive and the bottleneck of your exhaust system. Moving to a 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 header will definitely change your tone to louder and more aggressive.

FWIW my exhaust got a fair bit louder when I switched to a Random Technology cat (Metal matrix) from the stock jeep ones.. Didn't get raspy either just upped the volume a bit.

Silversx05- Noticed you are in NY. Do you smog test there? If so, check and make sure if you need to retain the converters, and if so, in their stock locations, along with stock or approved converters/manifolds. Calif. does this, not sure if NY does too. If all the above is true, your only recourse is louder mufflers.

The Blackheart system on mine is rather quiet all things considered, and mine is catless with longtubes. With stock manifolds and cats, I can't imagine it being any louder than stock. My 5.0 with just a corsa sport catback, stock cats and manifolds, is at least as loud, if not louder. If you were looking for a loud system, I think you'd be better served with the speed engineering true duals.

It has real mufflers on it. It'll be quieter than the Speed Eng or Kooks True Duals which use bullets.

With my Kooks TDs, I see 105+db at idle right off the bumped and over 110db a couple of feet back at bumper height. It's over 95db just cruising around inside the car. Over 130db WOT outside and over 105db inside.

Swapped to a 6" fiberglass core muffler would drop that 10-15db (which I'm going to do). And that's similar to the BlackHearts mufflers.

Of course, headers, cam, and a lot more power will keep upping those db readings...

I wish I knew what the exhaust sounded like on my car. I ordered it on 4/10/2017 and has been backordered multiple times without explanation. It is now pushed back to 6/30/2017.
Even then its a big maybe. Mr. Todovky on the forum here is nothing but a salesman and has no interaction with manufacturing and is of little assistance in this regard. His suggestion was to cancel this order and buy a product from someone elsen, after first offering to contact manufacturing. Which he did not do and instead told me to buy another exhaust.

I tried calling Holley dozens of times until I got a human being in sales, just like Mr Todovky and this person responded a couple of days later with the date I already knew. At least he suggested to believe that it could to the clamps, etc as the pipes are bent in house.

So here I am 12 weeks later waiting for what appears to be a great product.

Been in the car game thirty years and I have never encountered something of this nature.

FYI for anyone considering this system.

I'm sorry to hear you are having the issue with availability of the system 30thanniv. Just to clarify one of the statements in your post, I'm not a sales person, I design LS swap and exhaust products within the walls of Holley.

Sir, you have my apologies for my mis-statement. You have designed a beautiful product that is seemingly unavailable.

I have been informed today that the tight bends are done on one machine which is the reason for the delay. This seems rather unlikely since the 409SS exhaust is available and the 304ss is not. Either that or something in your manufacturing operation eludes my limited scope of things.

Frustrated is to say the least.

Peace

I am also hoping to not have to wait forever to receive my 304ss long tube version. Ordered in early June.

One thing I can tell you is that the 409ss and 304ss systems are not necessarily run at the same time as the bender set-up is different (greater amount of spring-back on 304 material that needs to be compensated for) and either material may or not be in stock at any particular time, or be allocated to other products. I don't work in that department, but I know there are multiple variables involved that can affect the possibility of back-order situation. That doesn't make it any less frustrating for someone like yourself on the receiving end of things I know.

My duals shipped today, still waiting on the headers however. Will be interesting to see how long extra those take.

I received an e-mail today that the exhaust finally shipped (6/23/2010). The original order was placed 4/10/2017.

I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I had a local exhaust shop remove the Hooker mufflers and put on Borla stingers. They started the car with the hooker ones on it sounded pretty quiet almost like my brothers GTO does stock and that's with headers, no cats, and a cam. Once they put the stingers on it was a night and day difference. Idles at 105db but sounds pretty quiet inside the car surprisingly.

Any problems with getting the tips lined up after putting on the Borlas?

Also, any idea what the sound level was with the Hooker mufflers was?
