Default 1 7/8 long tubes, high compression and starters?

I am having a hell of a time finding a starter that will fit. The stock starter is fine with these headers but I just had the engine rebuilt and went up to 13.1 compression and the stock starter doesn't turn it over fast enough. I have tried the high torque mini starters from XS Power and MSD DynaForce and neither of them fit. They are both a little too wide. The stock starter is linger but I have plenty of room to go longer but none wider.

I know I'm not the only one with this combo so please let me know what you guys are using for a starter.

did a search and it seems quite a few kept the stock unit as their starter though there was some mention about cleaning the terminals and whatnot....or running a highervoltage battery. You sure your starter isnt just on its way out?

Yikes, I'm a bit embarrassed I didn't have very good results when I searched. Thanks for sending that link... The starter seems to work fine it's just turning the engine over a bit slower than I would like. I guess it's worth noting that I have relocated the battery to the rear so I'm dealing with longer cables which doesn't help.

Also worth noting is that I'm having a backfire through the throttle body so even if the car was turning over faster I think it still wouldn't start.

depends on how you searched it, I searched LS high compression starter through google to find that. So no worries man, Ive got my battery mounted in the trunk on my setup as well, I dont have any delayed start issues but I'm running 11.5:1 so nothing two crazy though I will say it cranks a little slower than my GTO, I just attributed it to the CI difference though.

Backfiring through the TB sounds like a timing/ tuning issue. Not sure the phase of your build might could point you in the right direction with a bit more info though as I had a hell of a time getting my 414 to fire off the first go around.

Well the car is a 408 and had 11.5 compression before without any issues. I'm using the same cam as before and the only thing I really changed on the engine is I went to a 4150 throttle body. Before it had a Vic Jr with an elbow, I kept the Vic Jr just added the FAST 4150. I also switched to a TH400 but I can't see that having that kind of effect on it.

I have another thread with a wiring issue I have/had. I cut a bunch of wires that were coming from the BCM that I thought I didn't need (race car). Well, turns out I needed them! After that the car wouldn't do anything, no dome light, no dash lights nothing. I have since reconnected most of them and have spark, fuel and compression so I thought I was good. I really feel it has something to do with that to be honest.
