LQ4 Starter / Flexplate issues.

LQ4 Starter / Flexplate issues. Hey guys so I'm so close to swapping my engine into my iroc but I'm stumped on a few things...
First off, my flexplate came with a spacer for a 4l80e but I have a long crank already so I pressed out the spacer. I'm putting a 4l60e on a long crank LQ4.
Anyway, as I am bolting everything together I notice my starter doesn't line up quite right with my flexplate. It's a Summit racing truck style starter. It smacks the flexplate instead of cranking it... Do I need shims if so where can i get them, or do I have a bigger issue? I just don't understand.

Did you ever figure out what your issue was? I am running into the same issue with mine and am trying to figure it out. The starter gear on my long crank LQ9 smacks the flex plate instead of engaging it like it should and im using the same flat flex plate with the spacer removed/pressed off.
