Default IAC question ???

LS engines are still new to me so this may seem like an odd question. I removed my IAC to check for carbon buildup. When I replaced it I did not hook up the connector (got distracted). Anyway, when I started it a few seconds latter the idle climbed to 2800rpm and stayed there. I shut it off, reconnected the plug and the idle went back to normal. The engine was at normal operating temp, so to me it should not have made that much of a difference in the idle since the stepper motor should have been in the same position as when it was plugged in. What am I not understanding here?

Thanks in advance guys.

when certain parameters are met...the computer has to relearn all the inputs from the various sensors to ensure it operates at its programmed optimization

i am no expert but thats what i understand

When you key off, there is a park position for the IAC and it is usually a very high flowing position. Because usually you need air to cold start. So, when you unplugged it, it was basically in a high airflow position with nothing telling it to start cutting back airflow. So the idle climbed.

When you plugged it in it returned to normal operation.
