Default Tabs snapped off balancer...what now

Before I get the "well had you put it on right" spiel , I have done this many times with no issue, the car has been sitting for 2 years outside and I'm sure had some play in this happening. With that being said while using my 3 jaw puller from summit racing two of the inside tabs of my harmonic balancer snapped off completely, I now have nothing to grab onto with the puller and the arms are too short for me to reverse them to try and grab from the outside. I got it to slip off maybe a 1/4 inch so could I just use a mallet and hit it from behind or is there another trick to get this thing off? I'm not worried about damaging the crank I am building a 6.0 and have a new crank I just need this off so I can take off the timing cover and recover the cam

Heating the hub with a propane torch helps out a bunch

you maybe able to heat it enough to hammer it off, or grind some notches in the dampener to get your 3 jaw to hold on. More than one way to skin that cat. But, with a little heat it will come off much better.

Drill a hole in each spoke and use a bolt type puller like a steering wheel puller or gear puller?

I have a huge jaw clamp what will fit around the pully. I'd use that and heat the balancer not the crank snout as the snout will expand into the balancer giving u even more trouble. Also, don't forget to pray lol

that's a pretty good idea but drilling through that thing would take forever. I wouldn't recommend a wheel puller as it's intended for much less force, and the bolt type puller from auto zone strips the threads with a substantial amount of force. Heat is derfinatly your friend

Drill it, thread it, and use a regular balancer puller. It's cast so it will drill easier then you might think.

I would try drilling about a 3/16-1/4" hole straight into the flange of the damper parallel to the crank snout and then try to split it with a sharp cold chisel.

I have a few local parts stores that loan tools for free (refundable deposit) Why not try to get a puller that will fit the outer ring? There is no way you can hammer it off.
Other option since you don't care about the crank would be to cut it off with a plasma cutter or oxy torch.

Did you ever get it off? Which method worked? I have never seen this so I just wanted to know how you got past it.

Do you mean to cut into the damper with a grinder? Kind of like how you remove an old hub? Because that's what I was thinking before you posted this.
If you can get a good size cut "Near" the crank and far enough back, you may be able to use that chisel to crack that hub all the way through.

Or, the big jaw puller is a great idea too. I'd actually try this first...With heat.

This reminds me of the episode where peter accidently switches the TV to input mode

(oh god, I hit input, we have to throw away the TV now...)

Don't throw away the engine. But you could always throw away the engine
