Thanks, I've been spending money from left to right lately between my camaro and this 454 truck. Since I made more this week than I thought on my part time job I'll be replacing the radiator hoses with some new ones. Weather broke free last weekend so I went playing in my camaro and finally cleaned her up some. Next Saturday I'll be mounting my Toyo drag radials on if it's not raining.

Here is my car and the tire of choice I'll be mounting next weekend.

I tried MT et streets, Nitto 555, bfg original drag radial and the Toyo, they were by FAR my favorite. The nitto and the MT were taller and skinnier also and with a 315/35R17 on my 11" wide Fikse wheels I had no rim protection, the BFG and the Toyo hung over the lip a hair which guarded the lip of the wheel, and looked better.

Great News!! My rear rims measures 11.5 inches wide. Good news I have my tires in front of my bed as I speak... bad news is the weather man speaks rain Saturday and Sunday again.

Probably 11, measure from inside to inside on the bead area/lip of the wheel.

Either way they fit fat and I prefer that.

Has anyone done a slow build up on a 6.0? Like change one part and show HP improvement? I’ve got a stockish 6.0 in the hotrod and just picked up a 3/4 ton with a lot of miles but stock.

How much is the tune holding back a stock motor?

Depends on the tuner.... but hypertech claims a 30hp-50hp on most gas engines depending on what setting you choose.

There was a long term mpg study if I recall back in the 90's, using a second gen dodge pickup that compared tailgate up, tailgate down, bed cover, partial bed cover and a camper like contraption that extended from the top of the cab to the tailgate (wedge shaped) that provide the best increase to mpg.

Tailgate up was better than tailgate down.

A hard tonneau that covered like 1/2 the bed but at the rear of the bed was better than a full tonneau.

I will see if I can dig it up.

Mythbusters already proved that the tail gate down shows no difference at all from when the tail gate was up...

Awesome truck!

Me and my wife bought a brand new 1992 TX/OK Package single cab shortbed 4.3 and it was a great truck. FI and the 4.3 has nothing to do with this thread but she got 20mpg and I got 18mpg, it ran good for a V6

I do plan on stripping the side molding, tint the windows, installing towing mirrors, tranny cooler upgrade, cheap wheel upgrade, and replacing the cassette player for a aftermarket CD player. I just started a thread about CD players for under a 100 dollars... since I don't know nothing about audio. Yes it's a 454 gas guzzler but no longer will i have to ask to borrow someone else truck to tow my camaro and the truck also go be used as a spare vehicle when needed. Here is a pic of the truck. It's a 2 wheel 2500 454ci truck. All original except for the muffler. Plus no rust on the truck.... Just a few scratches here and there. I think after a good buffin I'll be happier.

243- Thank you so much for the nice compliment. I plan on keeping the truck even later down the road as I can afford a diesel. The 454ci truck is so torquey for a gas motor that'll get my car back and forth to the house when NEEDED. So no more calling buddies asking them to borrow they truck. I just can' afford a 50K plus diesel at the moment.

Right Now the truck will serve as a spare vehicle and a tow rig.
Later, the truck will serve as a secondary tow rig, spare vehicle, PAID FOR truck.

I'll really like to own a mega cab cummins. I like the room they offer and I can see myself traveling to different tracks and states. I always wanted to go to the best 1/4 mile tracks in the states.

Tusky'

I went to the range and just made it back to catch up on the thread. I see your Dad has cancer and I know it's a drag on him,you and the family. My Mom (72), her best friend living with her (78), my Aunt (51) and a good friend at work (70) all were diagnosed within three months of each other.

My Mom has been through chemo (red devil), operations to remove lympth nodes and the mass but finishes her six weeks of M-F radiation this coming Wednesday, I noticed at dinner Friday night she has some burns on the upper chest below her neck but she never said a word, she is a trooper!

Hang in there!!!

You may have the upholstery where you want it but I will say that Blue Coral upholstery cleaner from the 'zone is the best cleaner I have ever used. I even use it on the carpet in the house when I put a spot of oil on the carpet.

I put a version of the Polk DB's 6" in my 2010, great sound for the price but now I have to go back and pull the door panels to put speaker rings in

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As far as the thread topic....

I am very happy with my 2010, I have only towed once, a Jeep FSJ across some serious mountains in Texas and it was great. Mileage not so much but I didn't buy it with high mileage expectations so there is not a huge disappointment.

I replaced the original tire size, I believe 265/75/16's with 295/65/18's and I sure wish I had 4.10's, since I don't get high teen's I would rather have my acceleration back but not enough to re-gear.

The lower rpm actually dropped mileage about .5-.75 mpg, I assume because it has dropped out of the torque band.

Swapped mufflers, several times starting with a 3" Summit Flowmaster knockoff and it sounded like crap and droned like a mother'f, installed a Flowmaster 3" Super 44 and it was on the mild side not even close to the 2-chambers on my 89 and 91 5.0's that I loved, and I realized I choked off the exhaust with the 3". My last is a Dynomax Ultraflow 3.5" and it's loud, I am losing my hearing but I am good with note and at least it flows as good or better than stock....didn't do squat to the fuel mileage.

I have noticed a few 13.5 mpg tanks on the highway, in my opinion, the 11-12 mpg around town is the result of getting the 7000 lbs rolling every time I stop.

Long winded post but I have been off the forum for a while.

Edit: I had 99 and 01 Dodge QC 4x4 2500's, both with the Cummins 24V and NV4500, 3.73's and 285/75/16's, both would tow circles around my 2500HD and I know for fact get better mileage. I kept almost every receipt on the 99 since it was bought new and it averaged 17.6 mpg over 82K miles and most of that running 275hp RV injectors and an original Edge 3-button box. Loved the motors and the trucks for the most part but they also had issues.

Thanks man. We hanging in there as far as Dad goes. He is taking chemo 2-3 times a week. His hair is falling out from the treatments.... that what bothers me mostly.

What was your problems with your cummins ? I know people that swear by them.

WORD, though the later Dodge/Ram trucks seem to be better-built, quality-wise.

Just bought a toolbox from a co worker for 30 bucks. Im go try to make her look new again some way or another I hope.

I'm also setting my eyes on a trans temp gauge. Not sure which brand yet but its go be a good one. Hot here in Mississippi and I need to be able to keep my eyes on the temp of things.

The tint is turning purple so ill be getting the tint redone here soon as well.
