I wonder if they have made changes over time to the ypipe so someone that had the older ypipe might not have fit as well as the guy that has the newer design. Anyone know of any changes speed engineering made?

I have the new SE Y pipe and it has the same issues that Full-Force is describing. If Speed Engineering changes the design, it will have better clearance. If the driver side of the pipe doesn't look like an oval, it's not made for good clearance.
Hey, guys we have never made any changes to our LS1 Y-Pipe since its release 3 or more years ago. In all honesty we haven't really had many complaints about it over the years until a few guys recently started talking about clearance on the drivers side pipe. After reviewing our Y-Pipe on a car in house we were able to adjust our Y-Pipe higher than the lowest point of our headers. So I am not really sure why clearance has all of a sudden been an issue. Our kit tucks higher than several aftermarket companies including SLP, Hooker, eBay headers, etc. We currently have no plans on revising our LS1 Y-Pipe at this time.
Sean, the headers fit amazing. Best price/quality fitment ratio available hands down. If ever you decide to re-design the Y pipe in the future, I recommend changing the cross sectional area on the driver side (flatten it like an oval) for even more clearance on lowered cars.

That was how the original OEM y-pipes were done, it was not a popular feature. The area would be reduced slightly.
there was a guy years ago on here that did his whole dual exhaust from the headers back with oval piping like that. im sure it wasnt easy or cheap but did look cool and had a **** ton of clearance when done.
And the area gets wider as you ovalize it. Thats just common sense
This is what you said earlier, which describes flattening a circle. It does not describe oval tubing with the minor diameter matching the round tube diameter.
To describe it in your terms, "ovalizing" a circle decreases the original area.
And what is done to the above Y-pipes when flattening parts of it DOES decrease the cross-sectional area of the tubed in question.
So next time instead of spewing your garbage mouthed junk, just be sure you know what you are talking about.
SE 1&3/4" headers & SE y installed easily & fit perfectly on my sons 99 6 speed. and at least for us, even the supplied clamps worked perfectly fine / tightened up great with the supplied hardware. i would buy the setup again & would have no problems buying their true dual over the axle
That's lowered almost 2".. not sure how much more room you need.. I have never bottomed out my y-pipe and I drive on shitty Michigan roads. I guess you guys just have much higher expectations of ground clearance.

Thanks

The y pipe is the same but didn't you redesigned the headers a couple years back.
