Water temp gauge heat soaking

Water temp gauge heat soaking I installed a glowshift water temp gauge. put the sensor on the passenger head (where the plug usually goes)
after a couple minutes of idling, the gauge was reading like 280 degrees. the factory gauge was reading just above 120. was able to verify this with an infrared thermometer on the heads (and by touching them)
my only thought is that the sensor is heat soaking from the proximity to the header. anyone ever see this? if so, what's a good fix? foil tape?

The oil pres. gauge I has seems to be pretty accurate. I would say it reads maybe 1-2 psi lower than what I'm seeing from the factory gauge, so it's either off a little bit, or the factory one is lol.
