Default Advice on new SHP LS Next Nitrous Engine Combo

Happy New Year everyone! It’s really happy for me as I am retiring and building a new motor for my 2001 Camaro Z28 Convertible! Short history: was running a forged 402 stroker with AFR 225 Heads, Tick Nitrous Cam, FAST, etc and N.O. Plate on 300 shot and was getting consistent 9.60s at 142. Dropped a valve seat and that was that. I have a $15,000 USD budget to build a new combo almost from scratch. I have purchased a Dart steel SHP LS Next Block. I am re-using my forged crank, Morel 5206 lifters, timing set, engine covers, valve covers and trunioned Ls2 rockers. I am considering Callie’s Ultra H-Beam Rods, Custom Diamond Nitrous pistons with 4 inch stroke and 4.155 bore with 11:1 compression. Considering TEA 245 Ported Cathedral Heads with Inconel exhaust valves, Nitrous exhaust Port and 1/2 inch head and 6 Bolt provision. Intake have ordered a MSD with Direct Port from N.O. Cam: i’ve tried to get new specs from both Tick and Martin but have heard nothing to date. I’m considering either 251/266 with 63X"/.595" 112+4 or 247/263 .653/.632 113+3. Pushrods will be 11/32 at .125 thickness. Plan to run a 350 shot and looking to run low 9,s in 3900 old car (with me on it). Drivetrain is Performabuilt Black Edition 4L60e Level 3 and Mark Williams 12 Bolt with Wavetrac and 3.73 gears. Converter is ProYank 3600 Nitrous Converter. Appreciate any advice on my proposed build as I am getting ready to pull the trigger and start ordering parts!

With 4.155" Bore Rectangle Heads offer 50+ CFM @ .600".
Why not shoot for high 8s? .630" is pushing the envelope
On Stock rockers even with the trunion upgrade. I would do
Bushing style if keeping Stock Rocker. Bigger pushrods
Are your friend also 3/8" minimum for your goals IMO.
Good Luck & Congrats on ReTooling!
(Retire is not a good word in my vocabulary LOL)

I hear you on the rectangular heads. TEA told me they don’t offer Nitrous exhaust Port on their LS7 Heads. I’ve re-posted this in the Internal Engine section. I have the bushing style trunion. I never considered 3/8 inch pushrods but will take that under consideration. Thanks!

Almost identical everything except mine will be 13:5 compression, Mast Black Label 305cc heads and 300 shot of spray. Same combo with sleeved LS7 block and ported castings ran 9.30's at 3800 lbs...same trans as you even. I will be using the aluminum version of the same block as you also https://ls1tech.com/forums/attachmen...127_110547.jpg

I would spring for those rods for sure, even a scat H beam will do if your running up on the budget.

GZ Vacuum pump is a good add to relieve CC pressure given the ring gap you'll have.

That compression number means street car right? If there is 93 where your at you can move to 11.5 safely, that should help a little.

What is your shift point target, I might move to a 4.10 with that weight and combo. Those Morels won't float so why not spin it up a bit more and get a little more out of the hit.

Don't under cam it you don't want to be .2 from 8's and run out of Cam

Make that **** hang'em thru the 60' and aim for that 8, Your only a pill away... That combo should hold more that a 350 shot any way so why not..... says the guy not paying the bill 😎😎

Default Thanks for the input everyone

I decided to reach out to Tony Mamo for his advice as well. He answered my email on Sunday and we arranged a call that night! I am now looking at his ported LS7 MSD, Mamo 6 Bolt LS7 Head with hollow intake, solid exhaust valves and Nitrous exhaust Port. Head will have upgraded springs and his custom Yella Terra roller rockers along with Johnson Short-travel lifters. He is spec’ing me some forged pistons and cam to meet my goals. I will be re-using my Callie’s forged crank and H-beam Rods. He is thinking on the 434 with these mods we are looking at 700-720 crank hp and it will love the spray.
