Default Question on using walker exhaust pipes for duals

So I’m trying to piece together my own duals kit , wanting different mufflers than what’s offered on pre made kits.

I found replacement exhaust pipe for 3rd gen foodies that are made by dynomax. Part # 289-47638 Seems to be pipe that would be long enough to go from H pipe all the way over the axle .

The pipe is only 2.5” doesn’t bother me because I want to use two of these for duals on a stock ls1 fbody.

The question is will both of these pipes fit under 4th gen and over the axle (with aftermarket suspension) ?

thanks

The rear suspension area is the same between 3rd and 4th gens so each of those pipes would fit individually. They might fit as a pair as well. But why not buy one of the complete kits and then change the mufflers instead?

I've often thought about this too. The most difficult part of fabbing a true dual setup is getting the pipes to twist up around the axle. Since a factory one does this why not just use two?

Complete kits and then buying replacement mufflers is a pricey way to go. In addition your are very limited with muffler selection because of the positioning and size.

Do you know if the floor pan under the trans tunnel & rear seats is similar between 3rd & 4th gens where the exhaust pipes would be?

You are right that buying a premade duals kit and replacing mufflers would be simpler, but adds to cost of project.

Two exhaust pipes, relocation bar, mufflers, H pipe is still cheaper than buying hooker duals in my case and then cost of mufflers. Or it maybe same to get it done by a pro.

I’m trying to do a custom build for 2 main reasons:
  • Pipe size of 3” vs 2.5” may make difference between exhaust scraping since my car is lowered 1.25” on bmr springs. I got to do some research on how well hooker duals with 2.5” pipes fit on a lowered car.
  • Premade kits come with X pipe, I want to use H pipe, but I’m Open to change in plans.

You are pretty limited on muffler selection anyway because of where we have space to mount them. Going for the best ground clearance possible means you are putting them behind the axle anyway.

I believe from basically the transmission mount back is very similar if not the same. I know that the 4th gens seem to have a little bit easier time with ground clearance and true duals than 3rd gens do but I think design wise they are the same. I think the difference is how much the floor pans tuck up into the bottom of the car on the 4th gens vs being pretty flush on a 3rd gen. I have no proof of that other than memory of my old 3rd gens vs my current car though so YMMV.

I have seen on here a guy creatively running two fullsize 2-chamber flowmasters on here.

I too prefer an H pipe, just my thing.
