Default Is this maf OK to run

Bought a used gm 85mm maf off here for a good price. Car is apart and not tuned for the 85mm maf so it' not like I can plug it in and see how things go, and I would hate to show up to the tuner and have maf issues.

my complaints are with the large metal pieces inside the maf, not the tiny little filament looking things. The big metal pieces are covered with some copper colored stuff. Can' really reach in there to see if it comes off.

There really shouldn't be anything in the MAF, whether its on the rails or the sensors. Get some MAF cleaner and see if you can get it off.
Got any pics?

You could install the MAF and leave it unplugged while you drive it to the tuner. Unplugging the MAF will force it to run in speed density mode. Once you get to the tuner, simply explain to them about the MAF issue and they should be able to sort it all out. I agree with the above poster, use some spray cleaner before you install it.

the original plan was to pull the ecu and take to the tuner ahead of time for to change the maf tables for the new maf, but more importantly to enter the data for the new injectors i got. that way i can drive it to the tuners for a full post heads tune. what are ur thoughts on just leaving the stocker on there and just swapping it out at the tuner. they will be able to tell if there is an issue with it when they try tuning it

I think a lot of people do something similar to that. The tuner should be able to find out if there is a problem with it.

Are you swapping MAF's just to have a larger one? Do you have an 85mm lid? I only ask because there is not much to be gained with a larger MAF if there is a smaller choke point in your intake.

I just cleaned out my maf and it had the same thing. The aluminum supports had a copper gold color on the back side. Some maf cleaner from the local parts place took the color right off and made everything look like it was supposed to. Not sure what caused it to get that color but I figure it's probably something silly like an over oiled filter
