Default Starter won't fit?

Having problem installing starter...6.0 iron block (I believe ~2000), mated to 06 GTO T56 (I question the bell-housing)...starter seems to be a tad too large (the mount legs shown in picture) to fit in slot to lineup. I've checked three starters and they all pretty much look the same...need any advice or suggestions.
Thanks

I found this on another forum, " Will a LS1 Starter fit on an LS2 ....No The GTO has a different nose. The 04-06 GTO starter will interchange." Edit: But reading other posts that seem to say it should lol

Edit again, I think I found your answer :I mated the T-56 I purchased that was out of an 05 GTO. Everything bolted up perfectly just as it did in mock up, but this time I tried to install the starter. That was a no go, wouldn't fit! What the h#@$! So I went to my local parts house and looked up the numbers on the starter to see if I missed something. The starter came off the engine before I had it rebuilt. Come to find out that the 05 LS2 engines in the GTO use a mitsubishi starter and not the GM Delco starter.
The fix was changing the bellhousing.

Thanks for the reply...I'm a bit confused, are you saying I could use the Mitsubishi starter and make it work or do I have to change the bellhousing (to which bellhousing)?
Thanks

According to what I found while looking for the answer for you, The bellhousing is the reason your starter won't work, So replacing the bellhousing is one way to make your starter work. I assume the other fix would be to get the correct starter for that bellhousing.

I don't know what other bellhousing options will work, I would assume a t-56 bellhousing from another V8 application. Call one of the sponsors that rebuild T-56 and I'm sure they can help you find the correct starter/bellhousing combination.

You can use a GTO bellhousing if you modify it to fit the truck starter...

This is mounted to an iron block 5.3L, I mocked it up on a 6.0L iron block also worked great.

Was your modification to bellhousing, because you couldn't find a starter or just to allow you to use the starter you had? Just asking because I was going to just try the starter for an 06 GTO and hope that would would...your thoughts.
Thanks

I'm a cheap ***...I had 4-5 good truck starters laying around from different projects. I couldn't see spending an extra $85 bucks for the GTO starter...

06 GTO starter will work just fine...but, I road trip my A-body wagon a LOT and figure if I have starter trouble I'll be able to procure a truck starter a lot easier than a "GTO" specific one.

Every parts store will have a "truck" starter on the shelf...GTO, not so much.
