Default Exhaust options

I am in the process of gathering parts for a bolt on upgrade to a stock 99 LS1. So far I have bought low mileage 243 heads and an LS6 intake. Plan on a cam upgrade and have been talking to companies about what they would recommend. The car is a 6 speed and I have no real horsepower goals. Just want more than what I have as well as an aggressive idle.

How much of a HP gain would I get from a true dual exhaust/header upgrade? The car sits pretty low and I don't want to damage the headers if they sit too low. Not sure if it is worth the money.

A full long tubes exhaust with a proper y-pipe and catback will basically flow just as good as the true dual setup. It will be cheaper and have better ground clearance too.

does anyone have any read world examples of a header/cat back setup that has good ground clearance?

ARH long tubes, ARH Catted Y pipe. Hooker Aerochamber catback. Lowered 1 1/2" on hotchkis lowering springs. Have a hair less than 4 inches at its lowest point. Its not too bad actually. I do however still take care on steep driveways and speed bumps just in case. ARH longtubes do tuck up pretty nice though. What real world opinion are you exactly looking for?. Clearance?, Power gains?. Y pipe vs. True duals?.

I don’t want to spend a ton of money and have the exhaust bottom out or have an annoying exhaust drone. I also need to retain cats to keep the state happy. If headers/y pipe/cat back setup will tuck up nicely that’s probably the route I will go.

First off, as for bottoming out...are you lowered?. Or have million mile Decarbons?

Mine is lowered on BMR springs (same drop as Stranos) and my lowest point is my Pacesetter ORY. Their headers aren't to bad though.

There are plenty of people including myself who are lowered and have not had too many problems. That does not necessarily mean that problems can't arise. I cant guarantee there's not a huge pothole or speedbump with your name on it. Lol Yes, some exhaust setups will fit better and tuck higher than others. Best bet is to do some research on other people's setups and see what combos may clear or fit better. Kooks, ARH, and TSP are usually pretty good regarding headers and Y fitment. All setups can always use some fine tuning and tweaking to sit better.
