Engine on stand, how to wire battery to turn starter ?

Default Engine on stand, how to wire battery to turn starter ?

I want to turn the engine over so as to prime the oiling system via the starter.....how do I wire from the battery to do this ?

Hook the battery to the starter, just like in the car. + to the big post, - to the block. Then use a screwdriver to jumper the big post and the S terminal at the same time, TOUCHING NOTHING ELSE.

hooked up jumper cables ....neg to block....pos to starter.....the starter started to smoke....and the neg cable got real hot.....took it off fast !!!

Sounds like a dead shorted starter internally somewhere.

must have been a bad connection......got it to work now.....BUT is the speed of the starter fast enough to prime it??? I am not getting any oil to come out of the pushrods

oil filter is full of oil and i made sure the pump had oil in it.....i quadruple checked the O ring on the pump IT IS GOOD

Mains and rods get its oil first then the cam, lifters and push rods. Assembled my engine with a combination of ultra slick assembly lube and a high zinc oil. Built it put in the car and prior to connecting the fuel and coils up I just turned the motor over about 4-5 times and did that twice. The plugged in the fuel relay and the connected the coils and lit the pipes. Instant oil pressure!

FINALLY ......i had to let the starter run for about 2 min straight......but got oil out the pushrods

i also took off the oil pressure sensor and filled the hole with oil.....

Spark plugs in or out? Motor will spin over much faster without spark plug in it.
