Default avoiding the pace setter yp ipe

will a hooker y pipe fit my pacesetter headers with minimal custom work? like will it atleast line up somewhat closely so that i can weld a peice of metal around the two and smooth out the welds with a grinder?
Thanks

Unless you already have the Hooker y-pipe. I'd suggest that you just buy a Flowmaster Collector and have an exhaust shop fab up a y-pipe for you. You'd probably come out cheaper and happier in the end..

no place around me can do a 3 inch set up, not for under 250 bucks

i might just get the pacesetter y pipe, hope for the best, and if it bangs put hangers on it in a couple of places and perhaps add some poly motor mounts.

the shop that did my true duals owes me so install and fab will be minimal cost (full exhaust done from headers back, with a 3 inch cut out with whatever work it takes will be around 50 bucks and a 24 pack of bud light). however they cannot bend 3 inch pipe. as long as the y pipe will hook up to my header collectors fine, the rest would be not so hard to make it work. just worried about all the talk and bashing of pacesetters y pipe. i thought they fixed their issues? i dont mind teh kinks at all if thats the big issue still.

Get the Pacesetter and if you have any issues with.. Just have you exhaust shop fix it for ya. I had absolutely no issues with my Pacesetter Y.. Maybe you'll get lucky too..

Same with me I have had no problems with the Pacesetter Y pipe, some of my friends have. I think if you spend the time to tweak it just right you wont have a problem. Good Luck.

i have poly motor mounts and my pipe never bangs. and i get awesome clearance on a lowered car. my friends hits on his ss with stock mounts and we put header wrap on top of the pipe and wala it was gone problem solved. just jam it up in there and hold it down iwth the heat shield

im thinking i will put some good sturdy hangers (with some rubber on them as well) on each side of the y pipe. figure out where it bangs first. then do the hangers. I dont think im talented enough to change my motor mounts, and i cant be putting out more cash right now, i got fucked in the *** really hard with this true dual ****, and the gy that did it quit his job at the damn shop just after i got the car back, so i have no one to **** all over.

Banging? Just put a piece of radiator hose in between the pipe and floorboard and you're done. That's what I did and have no regrets. PaceSetter----> good headers, awful ORY.

I went with their ory pipe. Just for hopes that the collectors and y pipe will line up well. The rest can be taken care of with some motor mounts and some hangers i think. So i guess we will see.

Thanks guys

Anyone else have a problem getting the i-pipe into the y-pipe? Mine is stock but just couldn't get the leverage I needed to pull the y-pipe straight down to get a staight shot into the pipe.. I just had a thought of using a leather belt to pull the pipe straigt down. Went by a muffler shop I have used in the past on cars with not cats but he wouldn't touch in this time.

I really wasn't all that pleased with how the headers fit either though, having to grind my k-member so that my car doesn't shake like a bitch? I think that's crap. My Mac Midlengths were great, fit great, didn't leak or bang. Pace Setters are good for the money, but don't think you aren't paying another way.

Thats what I did also. I bought heater hose at the local hardware store, a 3" clamp, and I got a small piece of header wrap to put under the heater hose so it does not touch the pipe (no melting). Cost less than $3. I only needed to put this on the ypipe under the drivers seat. At first I could feel the vibration (instead of banging), but the hose has softened and is barely noticable. My ypipe still sucks though with that big *** dent/bend in the area under the drivers seat. I think they fixed with this newer ypipes, but I still think I am loosing a few HP to that dent.

i honestly doubt you loose any hp from the dents int eh y pipe. asy ou can see, the pipe isn't just mashed in on the top, the whole pipe is squished. which by my math it would still flow pretty well. perhaps a bit less, i would think with stock internals it wouldn't hang up any hp, with a cam only car it might slightly, but once you start getting into strokers and more radical motor combos it would start to loose hp then, but by that time most would go to a true dual set up with dumps...

I can't complain about the bends in the pipe, i haven't has such good ground clearance since my factory exhaust and i think i may even have more now. I was having issues with my header collectors being too close to the floor board cause i didnt bump the floor board in there, so i cut off about a half inch off of it and put the y pipe on there, and i swear it tucked it up even better than the stock manifolds and y pipe.

is there any set back by just putting the rubber there and not using a 3 inch clamp? cause i already got the y pipe on and what not and i can't really take it off to put the clamp on i dont care really if it melts or anything as my car is not a show car by any means. but will it stay? looks like it should mush up in there pretty damn well though.

I have to agree about the clearance issue, my headers and ypipe are tucked under the car better than the stock ypipe was. I don't bang on speed bumps like I did when using the stock ypipe. As far as the clamp, I just put it on to keep it there, but I don't think it is going anywhere because it is in tight. My clamp is about to fall about anyways.
